I think the nearest Honda dealer is in Atlanta, unless something new has opened.

I'm not very familiar with Honda's, but as I have posted before, I'll never own another SeaDoo. Yamaha builds a far more reliable product.

You can do a search for Yamaha, SeaDoo, and Honda to see bunch of previous posts on the subject.

We have a 5 year old SeaDoo and have been very happy with it. They all need work now and then.

I've had several SeaDoos and several Yamahas. In my experience, both maintenance cost and frequency of problems has been 50-75% less with Yamaha in all cases. Most folks that have owned both will say the same thing.

The last SeaDoo I owned (bought new) was such a nightmare that I traded it (at a big loss after 1 year) and swore them off forever. If you have a trouble free SeaDoo, consider yourself lucky.

My neighbor recently bought a Honda 4 stroke jetski in LaGrange....don't know the name of the dealer though....my '99 Seadoo GTX has gone through 3 rectifiers and apparently in need now of a new starter.....

I purchased 2 - 2005 Yamaha FX High Outputs and my neighbor purchased 2 - 2005 Yamaha FX High Output Cruisers. We are both very happy and have not had any problems at all between the 4 of them. I do know several other folks that have traded their SeaDoos in due to reliability and maintenance issues. SeaDoos are also much more difficult and expensive to winterize than Yamaha's. You can do Yamaha winterization yourself. Takes about 1 hour each to finish (not including the waxing). All the instructions are in the manuals.

Let us know what you decide on!

Where would be the best place to get a new starter on my GTX?

one off CranBob's GTX, he seems to have one of the few with no problems....... Or possibly the '03 GTX I owned is in a junk yard somewhere and you could get a deal on the starter.

Bigfoot best place to buy a starter for your SEADOO is from a SEADOO dealer. There are alot of after market ones out there at half the price but do not hold up. If yuor bike is a 99 GTX RFI it takes about 2 hours to replace.Exhaust pipe and throttle body must be removed for access. lots of work to save buck

Try sinking them all. Makes them run much, much better. The fish enjoy them more too.

Actually, I have been fairly happy with my Seadoo even with the rectifier
problem (planned obsolesence). I have been able to perform all maintenance so far but I will not tackle the starter problem( if that is what it is).

I was at the boat show last night and talked to a Honda dealer there. Sorry, but I forgot the name of the dealer but they are in Pelham which I think is a lot closer than Atlanta. Too, if you can do the work yourself and will be on the lake for a while, getting parts UPS's to you is no problem. I'm a dealer for a local marine parts distributor and have parts shipped overnight UPS a lot during the warm seasons. I just do it as a side gig on Smith lake but still make a good buck on the weekends.

Pelham Powersports..... Honda's are $2000 cheaper than Yamaha's, which I have now, but would like to upgrade... Also the new Yamaha's have been uglied up in my opinion..... what's with all of the plastic shields on front......

Sounds like Honda is doing a good job at expanding dealerships. I would expect they build a reliable product based on their history.

In my experience the older Yamahas were bulletproof and the older Seadoos were trouble, however that has actually reversed in the last couple of years. In my professional opinion the newer Yamahas are one step above junk and when they break warranty isn't covering the repairs, the problems are directly traced back to poor, overcomplex designs. As long as you stay at or below 760cc the Yamahas are excellent boats as are the new four stroke Yamaha boats.Cross that line and look out because when it breaks and I do mean when not if,it will be ungodly expensive.Give me a big Seadoo or Seadoo four stroke any day.
