Those are strong words coming from a pontoon boat. But, I have to agree somewhat. Time is winding down.

I don't particularly like the big boats and I think they are too loud. I have a significant financial investment in this lake and need to have an eye to the future. Bottom line, I don't like the approach the legislature is taking and I resent a small group of hard-working people having their rights taken away without much thought to them. Guess that's the left-coaster in me coming out.

I don't have a big boat and I don't plan on getting one......That being said, this bill is wrong and those supporting it are being selfish.

I own property on the lake and have watched it develop over the years as well as seen the number of large boats increase. The big boats are not the problem, yes they go fast and create big wakes, but they always do it in the main channel of water, they do not come plowing down in a slough bouncing your pier, boat and waverunners literally beating them up. I see more problem dummys in 19 - 20 boats, and deck boats cause more problems to property owners than the large boats, and no I do not own a large boat, and I guess that may be a good thing if the power co. and developers have their way.
If they want to limit the size of boats on Lake Harris or an other NEW development so be it, people buying there will be aware of the rules, but leave the rest of us alone..............

oh yeah...... BLING IT ON........ Sorry catboat had to say it -:)

I have a large investment in a somewhat large, go fast boat. I want to purchase property at the lake, and live there, but it is not possible for me to do that at this point. I also have a business that caters to the performance boat population, and I would hate to see it fail because of the proposed bill. I enjoy my "go fast" boat at the coast much of the summer, but on weekends, I enjoy riding on Lake Martin with my friends and customers. As you can tell, I don't want to see this bill passed.

That is o.k. Lakebound, use the "bling it on" phrase as often as you like. I have a solution to the Boat Ban issue posted on my website under the message board. Just go to www.cathouseperformancemarine.com and click on message board, look close and you will see the solution. It is kinda funny.

And this is just one of many reasons the bill should not be passed.

I spent 9 years in the military fighting for freedom; I moved to Alabama because it is one of the best states for honoring that freedom. If folks want governement dominance, there are pleanty of places in the world where you can be controlled and micro-managed in all aspects of life.

We need basic law and enforcement, but exclusion is not the answer.

What's next for the lake.... No big houses? No dumpy fishing cabins? No wakeboarding? No jet skies? No public gathering at the rock? ......you can always find a group that is against something and wants to ban that something for selfish reasons.

GREED....GREED..... Mr. Alabama Power, Sen. Dial, Rep. Laird, With the passing of this bill you will be costiing thousands of Alabama citizens Thousands of $$$$$. You have already caused hardship for all boaters and their families across this state. I am an Alabama citizen, born and raised, 53 years of a state I have been proud of, if this bill passes the people above have destroyed this .There are laws in place to control the situation. ENFORCE THEM!!!!!

I have been silent throughout all of these discussions. I thought I'd throw in my humble little citizen view here.

This sounds to me like a few greedy men are out to make some big money which is great. That's what this country is built on. However, These few men (and their lawyers - lets not forget them) shouldn't have any say at all on what size boats other citizens can or can't use on public lakes. This is basic common sense. If they want to build the resort community. . . let them. What does this have to do with what size boats people can use?

Some lakes (or ponds) are very small and boat size is restricted to 'non motorized boats only' or 'trolling motors only'. This is for good reason. However, Lake Martin is no small lake. So this does come back to greed by a few men who are only thinking of themselves after all.

If this bill does pass. I would like to watch what happens when the development starts. I bet your going to see a few top executives of Alabama Power buying VERY large yachts (although they won't be able to use them on LM . . . Ironic) and VERY large houses over the next few years on their humble little salaries . I hope a few TV stations start watching this angle very closely.

I guess in the end my little voice means not. I get amazed at how such stupid ideas from a few greedy men can make it so far in government without anyone doing the right thing and stopping it. I'm not sure which is worse.

I had thought I had seen the most moronic arguments and threads against this law last week. I was wrong. This wins the prize. As the amount of traffic on inland lakes increases, regulation of the size of watercraft is about the only way to maintain any sort of safety and quality of life on the lake. Would you rather be told last names starting with A-M can operate on Sunday only and last names with N-Z can operate on Saturday only?

The idea that the cruisers, fountains and formulas only operate in open water and dont damage docks and seawalls is just ludicrous. I have sat on my deck and watched it too many times.

For you "I should have a right to operate whatever I want to whenever I want to types" I hope your neighbor starts parking his Semi in the street in front of your house everyday. We'll see how libertarian you are then.

Look in the mirror, bubba.

As I've said, I don't have a big boat, but I do believe in freedom. To suggest that someone is being moronic by arguing that we enforce current law is moronic.

If it were my personal lake, I'd ban everyones boat but mine......but It's not "all about me".

What Laws exist that apply to the current situation?

Speed laws? NO

No wake enforcement laws? NO

DUI Laws? THAT'S IT. WE'LL PUT MORE MARINE POLICE IN THE LAKE TO STRICTLY ENFORCE DRINKING LAWS. THEN MOST OF US WILL BE IN JAIL, HAVE OUR BOAT AND CARS TAKEN AWAY FROM US FOR TOO MANY DUI'S OR WE WON'T BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE INSURANCE. I believe boating DUI's go on your driving record.

THAT'S IT WE'LL JUST ENFORCE OUR CURRENT LAWS!!!!

EVERYONE IN AGREEMENT....

Well, you just showed us how much you know about existing laws on our waters. NOTHING!! For your lack of education go to this site. You might learn something. http://www.outdooralabama.com/boating/rules-regulations.cfm

a drinking problem?

You are wrong about current law. That being said, I agree we should have more no wake zones, restricted speed areas, and night time speed limits, as they pertain to public safety.

As for inforcement, the marine police could easily pay for reinforcments by issuing tickets to the drunks, PWC abusers, and dumba$$es.

Your arguement that law enforcemnt is bad because you don't want a DUI is a perfect example of the "it's all about me" attitude. It is also incredibly ignorant.

You hate the Power Company, which built the lake you claim to love so much and without which the lake wouldn't exist, because you think it is behind a bill to ban boats that as far as I can tell about 98% of the people on the lake who don't own or make a living off of the boats think are too big, powerful, etc. for inland lakes. Maybe as a sign of protest against the power company you should boycott their lake since you hate them so much. Then you wouldn't be such a hypocrit for enjoying the lake they built.

On the other hand, you could just go outside and scream at the traffic as it goes by or howl at the moon.

I DID NOT say they DONT every do damage, HOWEVER I have seen more 15 - 20 ft boats come flying and or plowing through sloughs with little or no disregard for other peoples property more often than the cruisers, fountains and formulas.... perhaps your dock is closer to the big water...

What in my post suggested to you that I was in favor of hundreds of PWCs running 70 or 80? Is your argument in favor of running 35' Fountains at 70 or 80, or creating whitcaps running down little kowaliga creek, so weak that you have to change the argument in order to respond? PWCs may be annoying, but they don't slam my boat against my dock or cause the lake to lap over my seawall.

"The big boats are not the problem, yes they go fast and create big wakes, but they always do it in the main channel of water, they do not come plowing down in a slough bouncing your pier, boat and waverunners literally beating them up. "

Looks like that's exactly what you said until somebody called you on it.
