Not a sound, except for the geese, the last of the loons, and a fisherman heading to the creek mouth....

And in the distance I heard the moan of the bridge as the first of the big-boat crowd realized they were not wanted here, and hauled their purpose in life towards the Gulf, where a new, happier life hopefully awaits them.

It's like 1969 all over again.....the Lake seems proud, happy, relieved....at peace for the first time in decades.

Thank you, Thomas Jefferson.......

Thank you for the wonderful first part of your post of the beauty and nature of our "Wonderful Lake". Keep those kind of post coming.

As far as rubbing salt into the wounds of those possibly adversely affected by the recent boating legislations; please reserve the salt for assisting in curing the pork bellies of some politicians, if it applicable in this case. I understand it is easy for me to second guess your post -"after the fact".

Most of the backers of such legislation on this Forum have been more amicable to those adversely affected by the boating legislation.

Those responsible individuals adversely affected deserve more compassion, and in some cases all of our acceptance and our support to a degree where deserved and can possibly be mustered in your opposition. We are all Americans and love the freedoms associated with that status.

I could easily reverse the nature and direction of this post to those that desire to circumvent unlawfully the essence of the proposed law if placed in affect.

We are only strong if unifed as opposed to divided. Lets look for the best solution in the long run and unify to support it. That can be
accomplished if we work together and not divided. There is no law other than those of our higher power that can not be amended and/or changed.

This is not so much a personal opinion as much as a belief.

Thomas Jefferson would be ashamed. I think David Copperfield would be proud. A lot of smoke and mirrors.

However, when I read posts that say things like:

This is a sad day,i'm just sick . Don't worry Steve,BIG POWER can come in small boats.Im selling after Tic Faw.We'll find me a bad @ss 26"11 cat to p! ss everybody off at Lake Martin.

and

At 25 mph this bad boy would produce a wake that would splinter a dock and put pontoon boats up in the yard...

and

oh and by the way. go f#$k yourself old timer

then it's hard to feel much sympathy. I know that these people don't represent all of the "big boat" crowd; I also know that have yet to see ONE other "big boater" call them out for what they are saying.

Unfortunately, that's the nature of politics. Like the Senator said, they tried to balance both public and private needs. Often times the private needs involve backroom politics whereas addressing the public needs is a much more visible process which often times pits neighbor against neighbor, group against group etc. My only problem with this process was that insightful public debate was not encouraged or fostered by this group for whatever reason. I feel that this is a politicians most important duty.

When you paste from the other site, too this one, I really don't agree with it. It seems you are using my message board (where they are obviously opposed to the bill) to belittle them on this board. I know most of these people, and they are venting because they are not happy, matter of fact, they are very unhappy. They are for the most part responsible people. They have investments in their boats, just as you do in yours. Tempers will calm with time, and some express anger and feelings different than others. I can't stop you from the copy and paste game! But I wish it would stop. If the majority on my message board oppose, let it be. If you feel that you need to make a post to them on "the other" board, you are welcome to do just that.
Thanks.

I understand your position, and believe it or not, I respect it. However, there are a few other points to consider as well. For one, I wasn't the one who cut-and-pasted from your site; I just copied posts that were already pasted here.

Also, not every post I copied was originally taken from your site.

And, judging by the user names, the posts copied to here were made by people who also post on this site. I fhtey have something to say that they don't want readers of this site to hear, then I think that's all the more reason to let people on this site know what's being said.

And finally, the bottom line isn't "where" was something posted, it's what the post said. Yeah, people are upset, and I don't begrudge them for that. But they're talking about "dock busting" and "revenge;" that's not ordinary anger, that's the first step towards violent confrontation. If that's what we have to look forward tro, then you better believe that I, for one, will do whatever it takes to warn people about what's coming.

Nevermind. We will not change each others mind.

I'm not trying to change your mind; I'm just trying to get you to see things from another point of view.

Had the bill gone the other way, and had my fellow pro-bill posters said things like "That's OK, we'll just shoot holes in their boats, pour sugar in their gas tanks, and steal their props in the middle of the night," I'd be P.O.'d to the extreme, and would not hesitate to let them know that I did not agree with that way of thinking, and that I would not condone it, and that if I caught them doing anything like that, they would wish that it had been the police instead.

But like I said, someone has to speak out against these threatening posters... so I will. It shouldn't be my job, but you won't take it, and so far, neither will anyone else on "your side." Whcih I find very interesting, and more than a little scary. And, I must say, very telling.

This measure got more publicity and debate than 99% of the bills passed by the Legislature this session. Those other bills, I might add, affect more than a tiny segment of the population who view driving a 31' boat on an inland lake as a God-Given right.

It's not that I don't trust you, but on the other hand, you do own and operate a message board where I have been threatened. So, considering that, I'm not so sure I want you to have my name and address; after all, "accidents happen." :- )
