The lake rarely gets to "full pool"...... It is full now by normal standards.

Its my new sprinkler system with approx. 90 heads, have to water 2000 yards of new sod for the next 4 weeks, sorry.
So after about May 30th the water level should begin to rise once again ,as the new sod should be nicely rooted by then.

you = 2000ftsq - 500 ftsq (area OF 90 heads) = 1/4 acre+/-

As JLAZC replied, the lake is at full level, as far as those in control are concerned. I can not remember when it actually reached 490.0. It has been years ago and most people just accept it. The problem I have with us all accepting it is if we have a dry summer, much like the one about five or six years ago, then we would be a lot better off letting it drop from 490.0 than from 489.3. As far as the lack of rainfall, I agree it matters, but all the other lakes in the Alabama Power system reach the actual full pool number in the spring. Martin is the only lake that almost never goes to the actual full pool number. I can promise you that Lake Wedowee, above us, will reach their number soon. I wish someone in control at the dam could explain to me why we never do.

Thanks for the info, Maverick you bring up an interesting point. My friends lake cabin has a pump house on the property that was used to pump water from the lake into the house for showers and sink water and such. He says that it was only a few years ago that he was hooked in to city water. I am now curious if it is still legal to pull water from the lake to use for such things as Maverick said: watering your lawn. If so how is that regulated? They are thinking about putting a sink out on the dock at a fish cleaning station and I wonder if it wouldnt be easier just to put a water pump out there and pump water from the lake?

AU according to Alabama Power as long as there is no electrical in lake, then it is OK.

I remember one year the drought was so bad the lake was around 485' by July 4th. It seams that they let it bump 490' and then it fluctuates between 490'-489'. One year they held it up until Labor Day before starting to drop it. It was at about 485' when Opel hit and the next day was out of its banks. I really enjoyed all the beautifull birds that sought refuge at Lake Martin after that. Most years they start droping the lake right after July 4th. but I understand the " water wars " is suppose to change that.

It just takes a lot more water to raise Lake Martin one inch than it does the other, smaller lakes in the APC family, so naturally they fill up faster, and reach their full pool level sooner (and with less water) than we do.
Why APC doesn't allow for that (within reason; they can't control the weather) I don't know, but that's why other, smaller lakes fill up sooner than Lake Martin-- they don't need as much water to reach those levels.
To put it another way: if you put a thimble, a dixie cup and a gallon jug side by side and turn the sprinkler on, they're each going to get about the same amount of water. But one is going to fill up much more quickly than the others, and one might very well not fill at all.

So how did the sod-laying weekend go? From up here in IN looked like you had some pretty crappy weather (ours was worse). Hope it went well, hope you are well. How does a guy your age lay that much sod and live to tell of it???:) LOL.

Actually the weather was great, never rained on Saturday or Sunday.
Had all 30 pallets layed by 1:00 on Saturday, then went on to otherlake projects.
With regards to your comment - "How does a guy your age lay that much sod and live to tell of it??? " At my age hell - speak for yourself young lady, I was layed 30 times on Saturday and could not feel better. Thanks for asking though.
Next time at the lake stop by and say hello and I might let you and your girlfriends lay in my sod if your nice to me - LOL
