I'm back from a cruise and really worried 'bout the boating, and particularly the boats pulling little kids on tubes in our area. Twice I was squeezed off by boats pulling kids in particularly narrow, high traffic areas ... These are parents (or teens) oblivious to the risks of losing a kid in the worse possible position in the water.

PLEASE remind your friends and others that it would be always best to keep your skiers in either open water or in sloughs where no traffic can approach from a blind side. I really don't know what these folks are thinking, do they assume they are going to whip around at full speed to protect the kids in the water while traffic is coming at them from both directions? And if you pull a skier thru a narrow slot between two open areas of water, how can you see around that corner up ahead? The same goes for pulling around islands.

MANY years ago, my little brother was run over by an inexperienced driver. Lucky for him, he had time to dive and put his hydroslide between him and the underside of the boat and prop. He was thinking quickly and strong enough to swim against the bouyance of the vest he was wearing...

Children are precious & props are very unforgiving....Drop those tubers to make it thru the narrow passes, or keep them in the open well away from shore and "intersections" on the water.

Your rant is right on target, copperline. Today, I saw a boat pulling a child on a tube of some type at such great speed that the tube was taking flight intermittently while the poor child was screaming with fear. I can only hope and pray that the idiot driving the boat did not harm the child.

why people are allowed to buy any boat they want, put it in the water and use it with NO training, or experience. Ignorance is only exceeded by stupidity by many boaters.

Cannot agree more copperline. About three weeks ago the was a gentleman on a Yamaha PWC pulling 3 little boys (around 6 to 8 years old) on a tube in the main channel with heavy boat traffic, mid day.

One small child falls off the tube on the left mid channel and the man continues on pulling the other two children, knowing the first had fallen off, then about a minute or two later the next small child falls off mid channel. The man proceeds to leave the 2nd child in the middle of the channel and go back and get the first child whom had fallen off the tube. About 2 or 3 minutes later he goes back to pick up child number 2 in the middle of the channel.

I was sitting on my porch hoping and praying neither of these small children would be struck by the passing boaters as their heads were barely bobbing in the water and the boat traffic was moderately heavy.

Also at the same time thinking to myself take this idiots license and PWC away before somebody gets seriously injured or killed.

Had the same experience this week. Actually told a friend in the boat with me that I wondered if these "adults" would encourage their children to ride their bicycles with no helmets down a busy 4 lane freeway. The risks would be similar. NO COMMON SENSE!!!!!!

See this a lot in the crazy intersection near the Ridge, and all the time in the narrow cute leading up to Blue Creek. If you've never ridden up there on a weekend afternoon, it's not somewhere you can boat without looking out for idiots all around, let alone pull a tube. Saw 4 at once yesterday, two abreast coming around a turn.

If it wasn't for the kids involved, I'd write this off to natural selection at work. Darwin would have been happier if some of these parents simply hadn't bred.

young girl running a sea doo full throttle into my slough with a boy hanging on to her. Drove it right into the end. ..Didn't someone just die doing that?

Thank God one of the neighbors were not swimming or pulling out in a boat. Hey! Kill youself but not innocent people.

There needs to be a different licensing procvedure for 14-21 year olds. These young PWC drivers are getting out of hand....

Strikes me that it's far worse this year than past summers. Keep asking myself "What kind of idiot drags small children through areas of high boat traffic on busy weekends?"

It's not the kids on the tubes that worry me - it's the ones that fall off (that I can't see in the confused wakes of the main channel).
