While I didn't read every word in the article, it makes me think back when I was teaching full-time. Preferential treatment? Why not? I mean, if a student was:

1. working and going to school
2. having a large drama performance coming up and classes posed a hardship
3. an academic tournamet vs. everyday classes
4. athletics vs. academics
5. a parent dies and preferential treatment is needed
6. whatever individual circumstances

I remember #2 especially.

I had a student, who wasn't a particularly good student. But when I gave him lee-way because he was the phantom in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in his Senior year high school performance, then I let him slide during that time. He was appreciative and became a better student, because someone cut him some slack. Academics aren't always the MOST IMPORTAN THING IN LIFE. Can you believe a teacher would say that?

Thanks, JAW, for your frank response. I am sure that college athletes at all schools are viewed in a myriad of ways by the teaching faculty. Some are more sympathetic to students with hardships and distraction than others. Some students as well as teachers totally resent athletics being a part of their environment and will do anything to damage that aspect of
the educational environment. Not to say that injustices do not exist--they most assurredly do at all schools-- but those injustices occur across the
board not just with student athletes.

Is Alabama worried about Auburn this season?

LOL

Maybe they trumped up something to get Auburn negatively in the press....
