HI! Is there anyone out there that knows anything about Reeltown HIgh School? We are looking at moving to our Lake Martin home, but have children going into the 7th, 9th and 12th grades. All are ready to make a change, but feel we should do some homework ourselves. We currently live south of Atlanta about 15 miles. Our school district is over populated and the administration is horrible. On top of that overall test scores are dropping dramatically. We would consider establishing a residence in Auburn, if the schools are better. We would appreciate any information or experiences you've had on area schools...
Thanks!
Lisa & Joe

Don't have kids in the school system but can tell you that the area is very rural and kids are bused in from all over. The sports programs are very good and organized. Compete strongly in almost all sports. You can go to a website called www.greatschools.org and go to that school to see the racial make up, test scores, all kinds of data about it. Very good website. Just choose the state as alabama and then type in reeltown for the school. It will show you the school information. I must add that the Auburn school system is very well respected. Many good things are always said about it. Just my two sense. Good luck. Check out the website......

It has been several years but I knew the principal and head football coach at Reeltown, since retired, and went to a couple of football games. Felt like the good old days when the coach was a role model and disciplinarian. Do not know much about academics, but small town values carry a lot of quality.

extra 15 minute drive for the best public schools in AL. Reeltown is nice but tiny. Auburn would be less of a culture shock, too.

You must live in or near Fayetteville. We are in Peachtree City. Look at Lee Scott Academy in Auburn. We are also considering a full time move to the lake and have a daughter in 5th grade.

Hey Newbie, we are near fayetteville, in stockbridge actually. We have had our fill of stockbridge and the schools. We have a place on moon branch since 2004 and we love it. Thanks for your suggestion, we will be checking it out. We have 7th, 9th and 12th graders.

We live in Chambers county just north of Auburn. My son is in the 8th grade and goes to Chambers Academey. If ther was any way i could do it i would send him to Auburn city schools. They are one of the best if not the best in the state. As someone else said it would also be less "culture shock".Send them to Auburn city schools. The only bad part is housing price are going sky high in the Auburn area.Buy NOW!!!

Thanks so much for your response. We have heard nothing but good things about Auburn City schools. My wife and I looked around town and at a few houses this past Saturday. We didn't see too much and don't know the town well. What makes you think the prices are getting ready to go up?

I live in Tallassee which is a few miles from Reeltown. I wouldnt have any problems sending my kids to Reeltown .I actually have a cousin which will be going into the 10th grade and his brother will be in Kindergarten this year. I went to Reeltown back in the late 80's and then had to transfer to Tallassee because my parents divorced. Tallassee has a great school system also. Better than Reeltown IMO. But you have to live in the school district or area to be able to attend. Same goes for Auburn. If you live at the lake your kids wont be able to go to Auburn. They will have to go to whatever school is zoned for you area. I wouldnt have any problem with Reeltown, Tallassee or Benjamin Russell.

Thanks for responding. We appreciate you relating your experience with the local "lake" school systems and realize that establishing an a residence in Auburn would be necessary to attend there.

We have lived in Newnan for 2 years. Before that, for 17married years (and I am a 5th generation Rockdale Countian), we were in Conyers. I feel your pain inregards to Stockbridge....

Husband can retire in 2 years. We have been looking at property in Auburn, too. I am a teacher. I have done my homework on schools and systems. I believe I am right when I say, Auburn High was ranked 77th in the nation in U.S. News and World Report in their Top Schools issue each year.

We will have a son who will be in 9th grade when we move. We are hoping to buy a lot now and build later.

but I would go for a private Christian school if I could. Even with good test scores public schools are still full of the national ed and NEA secular humanism agenda that will screw up your kids. If you can't do that I would find a school with the most parental involvement.

That unfortunately translates to the most affluent so the moms can be stay-at home and can be in the principal's office everyday if necessary. You are probably trying to get away from this politically correct crap right now..... Hey! Sell the Mercedes!

Just my humble opinion......

I hear you loud and clear. Unfortunately it isn't a Mercedes, rather a SeaRay! It is something we have sruggled with, or shall I say felt guilty about, from Mom working on up to paying for the lakehouse. I was raised in Catholic schools and unfortunately they were not always the answer either.

I have enjoyed your posts RR and now respect them too!

RR is right; why go the public school route to screw up your kids when you can do the job right by sending them somewhere to learn that Darwin was wrong, that men have one less rib, that the Earth has only been around for a few thousand years, and that dinosaurs never existed. Who knows, before long you can be helping them write that research paper titled The Earth is Flat.

Thanks Joe, It's too bad that the choices have gotten so hard. You know you can say what you want about Catholics but by golly in the churches & schools there is lots of black and white and very little gray. No confusion about values. I'll take that any day.

Lee Scott is in Auburn. I am not sure of exact location. when I was in school we would go there for sports, science fairs, etc. it was where the small airport is now. Maybe someone can give you an exact location. I do believe it is still close to there.

birth control is in the black... :-O

Now nobody likes Peter Schiff (Dr. Doom) but he is saying that the real danger to this immigration problem is the easy immediate access to our welfare, medicaid systems.....and I agree. As soon as you are born here you are a citizen and can get benefits...I think if we get rid of that "little" benefit then a lot if the illegal stuff will stop.
