Sadly, I see from a posting that Louis has passed away. For those of you who aren't familiar with him, he was the owner of Veasey's Marina near Willow Point Country Club. Louis bought the marina many years ago, formerly it was known as Holmes Landing (now THAT will seperate the newbies from the old timers!)

Louis was a good friend to all for many years, allowing many of us to 'sign the ticket' and go on our merry way when all we had on was a pair of swim trunks and sunscreen.... He could be counted on for a friendly smile, and a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. I will miss him. My thoughts are with Barbara and his boys.....

This is sad news. We wondered what the closed due to illness sign was all about this summer.

Louis actually has owned the store for the past few years. It is my understanding that he bought it from a person in Birmingham that owned it prior to him.. Louis' brother Donald ran the marina for the person in Birmingham for several years. It was Holmes Boat Landing for several years back in the 60s when Jimmy Holmes and his father ran it.

There may have been other owners and managers at other times.

The bottom line is Louis will be missed for sure. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Veazy family.

One other tidbit of info. When Donald Veazy ran the marina for the Birmingham owner, the name was Pine Point Marina. However, a lot of folks, including myself, called it Veazy's Marina even then.

I agree.
Everybody I know refered to it as Veazey's Marina back when Donald ran it. I actually thought I remebered it already having a Veazey's sign out front back then.
Louis played football at Alabama and I'll always remember they had a little dachshund that stayed at the marina and you could say "would you rather be for Auburn or dead" and he would roll over on his back.

I heard that Louis's wife also had cancer. Does anybody know if that is true?

Veazey's sold it to the Birmingham owners, then bought it back after several years, then leased it for a few years before taking it back over. For 20 years I was close enough to swim to the place, but quit trading there while Donald ran it. My sisters boat broke down and he refused to let us use the ramp to take it out so we had to tow it all the way to Kowliga. After that I would drive right by there and go to Parker Creek Marina. I understand TOTALLY why they closed the ramp to the public, but we would NOT be leaving a vehicle there. We had been able to use it in the past, after they closed it, but after that one time it costs them a lot of revenue.

I hate this for their family. Our place is right across the lake from the marina. We are new to this area of the lake and went by there earlier this summer for gas and noticed the big sign that said closed due to illness.

My thoughts and prayers are with this family.
