I had work done at Montgomery Marine this year on 2 different boats. One was a pontoon with a knock in the engine and bad water pump I was told that the compression was bad and the engine needed to be replaced(2500) they charged me over 1100 to do this plus supposedly serviced the boat. When the boat was checked by another marina the only problem was the timming was off. I also had a bigger boat that they charged me over 2000 to service. They were to do a 100 hr check after I got the boat back I found that they had left out 2 water jacket plugs on one of the engines. After trying to put the plug in myself I found they had forced the water pressure fitting into a engine mounting bolt hole and left 2 water jacket holes unpluged! After talking to the service tech he said that a mechanic that had worked for them had sabbatoged his work on my boat. After running the boat I found that one of the lower units was pouring oil after checking this I found the bolts holding the rear plate were only hand tight They took on their own to check the wheel bearings on the trailer After only 50 miles I had to stop and buy 2 bearing buddies that had come off and clean grease off of the trailer and boat They were to check oil pressure gauge and sending unit. I put it on! a water pressure line was left loose in bottom of boat. With all this I did not believe anything and had all oils changed and reserviced Never again will I grace their doors

what gets me about OUR world is that these people will stay in business, making good money i assume, and keep sticking it to people. it is so unfair!

I called the service manager come to find out he was a owner of the Montgomery marine What makes me upset is that not one thing that I ask was taken care of!!!!! The only reason that I found out about the out of time issue was I ask for my money back on the pontoon from the buyer and he took the boat back to his tech. If not I guess I would have had a $3000 bill. This could have been a 60 minutes story called fraud. They clipped me for @$3000 Hope they enjoyed it. Having a sign made " Ask me about Montgomery Marine?"

If everyone that has had a bad experience with marine repair (bad service and/or rip off prices) would let others know--just as you have--we could put these thieves out of business.

By the way, I just got good service on an outdrive repair at Dwight Dunn's.
He's next door to Holiday Shores Grocery. Place doesn't look like much, ain't cheap, but he stands behind his work.

call me way to goofy, but when you guys talk about a reliable, good contractor or mechanic, etc.... i write it on a sticky note and put it under that category in the yellow pages. do i have way to much time on my hands or what?

are 2 great ones on that side of the lake. I have no relation to either but I trust them both enough to leave my boat there and say - fix it and send me the bill. I agree it is a shame when people who are not in the know get taken by bad businessmen / women around the lake (in all professions). Hopefully word will get around and the invisible hand of capatalism will do its thing.

I wouldn't let Mitchell Marine work on a #2 wash tub. If it had a broken handle he couldn't fix it.

No, your are what is called an organized individual. I keep a folder with a list of recommended new restarurants to try in the area to take down with me. Once down, I wil probably end up as anal as you in other areas. There is also a boat section to the Forum and a search feature that we can all use to look up various tips we help each other out with. So many aspects like restaruants, boat repair, car repair, type gas cans, best marinas, best type this that or the other, house keepers, gardners, builders, plumber and the list goes on.

.... you can contact visa/mc and dispute the charges up to 18 months after the fact. The money will be refunded to you immediately and only returned to the vendor after investigation and arbitration has determined that they did what what they were paid to do. Sounds like you have the evidence to see to it they NEVER get the money back.

I would do so TODAY!!! To heck with getting ripped off like that. Hope this helps and good luck.

Have any of you guys heard about or used AngiesList.com? I have seen it advertised recently but never heard of it before now.

... i would take them to small claims court and get some, if not ALL of my money back that way. Three grand may not be that much to you, but it is enough to make me go through a little hassle. Not to mention the principle of the issue. The ones that do that sort of thing continue to do it cuz most folks wont bother to fight it, and they know it.

I have techs for the hard stuff. I never did understand why someone would take a performance boat to a dealership that don't even sell them, or own them.
