Subject:   Another Development - Rumor??

I have heard of another development. It is supposedly in the cove/large sleugh after you leave out of the Narrows headed toward the main lake. It is the big cove on the left prior to getting to Veasey's as you leave the Narrows. I have been up in the cove several times, and it is rather quaint with a predominance of old Russell cabins.

The rumor I heard is it will be a very large development. The developer has bulldozed bunches of the cabins (the rumor is around 40) which were Russell rentals. The story goes Russell offered the tennants first rights to buy a lot for $500,000 each and most bailed out. They are going to build single family places there which are to exceed a million each. The name of the development is something like Potesis Hollow. This rumor is at least third hand.

This is not the Bolton Cover or the Water Edge Development.

Has anyone seen first hand anything going on there or know anything to either support the rumor or disprove it.

I believe you are talking about the Pitchford Hollow area; from what I've been told by those who would know, this will be another phase of Willow Point.

It's little wonder that these former cabin renters bail when offered the opportunity to purchase their former lot. For one thing, what they are being offered is not their lot, but rather a portion of it; the old lots are usually divided in half, thirds, or even fourths, so to get "your lot" you would essentially have to buy two, three or maybe even four lots. (And now, at least in Phase Three of the Ridge, people are being required to buy interior lots if they want a waterfront lot; that's even more money.)

Plus, the new lots are nothing like the old lots; the lot will be smaller, the neighbors closer, the houses bigger, the shorelines uglier (assuming you actually LIKED looking at trees) and so on. Definitely not what they have grown to know and love.

That is Pitchford Hollow, but I don't see how it could be part of Willow Point because Kowliga Cove Subdivision is in between them. Also, not sure which side the new development is on, but the north side of the 'hollow' is accessed from Elkahatchee Road I'm pretty sure. Either way it will have to have a seperate entrance.

if I was in the middle I would refuse to sell and see how they would develop around me....

I take back all that I have posted recently about Russell being a responsible developer.

I believe this is a continuation of the Russell development that can be seen between Veasey's Marina and the Scrushy "cabin" ... sorry, I can't recall the name, but these are the homes packed rather tightly and 3 deep up the hill. Only a few have shoreline, and there is a communal dock. The homes are not on the ample-sized lots as are the Willow Point homes, but packed very closely together. And they start at $500,000.

Feb... went by your "new" place and the excavation appears to be finished. Wish I had a safe place to hide out during tornado season like that!

Kowliga Cove is much to big to be bought out and included. Too many homes and several are BRAND NEW. In fact my old family place has a new 3 story house going up on it right now., so I don't think they wuold entertain offers at all.

Thanks copperline. I appreciate the report. My Brother also made it by this weekend and said the excavation work was coming along pretty good. Maybe the foundation and basement will move as quickly.

Thank you again for the great pictures of the controlled burn. Everyone I show them to is amazed at the fire. It does meet the definition of "Inferno".

Glynmere; the OFFICIAL name of Glynmere is "Glynmere at Willow Point."

So yes, theis new Pitchford Hollow developemt could very well be part of Willow Point; as for needing a separate entrance, maybe, although there is a road for Pitchford Hollow cabins that is in site of the gate at Willow Point.

I spent half my life there. No way Pitchford Hollow and Willow Point can have that proximity. The south side of pitchford hollow is accessed by Liberty Church Road and the north side from Willow Point Rd. and Elkahatchee Rd., both before the airstrip which is well outside of Willow Point's gate. Check a map.

These are the lots I posted about a couple of weeks ago. Talked to a friend with Russell Realty and they may be as much as a year from opening them. Has not been decided if it will tie into Willow Point, but if they do, they will either bridge over or tunnel under the road going to Veasey’s and the other houses in that area. These are the best lots I have seen open on Lake Martin in a long time.

Why a bridge or tunnel? What's wrong with two (or more) entrances into one developent? RL does have a history of this; there are two entrances into Windermere West, and it isn't nearly as big as Willow Point.

RL also has a history of putting an entrance far from the "guarded" entrance; see, for example, the Ridge. The ponds and rock wall that mark the entrance to the Ridge are a full mile-and-a-half before the guard shack.

But, I believe you about the tunnel, since that seems to be Ben's "thing" these days; did you hear that he plans to dig a tunnel beneath Highway 63, one high enough for a horse and rider to pass through, and wide enough for a horse-drawn carriage? That's how he plans to connect the "members only" trails he is bulldozing on either side of the highway.

I wonder how much bribe money it will take to get the Board of Transportation to okay a huge tunnel beneath the highway?
