Those of us in Coosa County have just seen our newly adjusted appraisals from the County Tax office, and many of us are shocked by the jump in values from last year. Based on what I know about Coosa County, the funds provided by property taxes is probably one of the only revenue sources they have. Please don't misunderstand when I say that I still can't argue against increased appraisals... there is ample evidence that the appraised value of my lot is still less than the retail value... But here's my issue: word comes now that when a neighbor of mine asked about improving our roads, the county's response was dismissive and the unlying message was "you don't vote down here".
So here's the question, folks. How do non-residents owners participate as full-fledged citizens and get local government to pay attention to our concerns when we don't vote in their elections? How do we participate in influencing local government decisions such as zoning and building codes, etc in the future?

Contribute or raise money for the offending office holder's opponent.

Our property value went up about 65% the way I figure it. Doesn't seem right. The Coosa counsel president made some very good improvements to our roads whilst trying to get relected. After his defeat we have seen no additional work. He promised to finish the job...win or lose. We are watching.

We took a pretty good crowd to a Coosa county commission meeting in Rockford and the commissioners got hammered about the roads. It is probably time to re-assemble. I drove down after work from Birmingham. We had a good spoksman who was an attorney in Montgomery.

That's the best way! Particularly if you give the money to someone who wins.

That's the kind of idea I was looking for. Maybe you could post on this forum when meetings are going to be..... and we could increase attendance at those meetings of county officials by lake home owners. It certainly would be a good idea to know who those officials are, how to reach them, and what is going on in their meetings. This forum would be an easy way to spread that information. Thanks BamaBob
