I'm a Dawg fan (have been all my life) but I pull for Auburn when they play anybody but the dawgs.
The Tigers were very lucky that 3 calls went their way Saturday:
1--In the first half, the LSU receiver clearly caught the ball and turned to run when it was stripped and went OB. The replay official ruled incomplete pass and LSU had to punt.
2--Then an Auburn DB hit LSU runner clearly out of bounds w/no flag.
3--Then there was the reversal of the interference call in the 4th qtr...
Like I said, I wanted Auburn to win, but the zebras helped them pull it out. I wonder just who the replay official was and where he was from...

let's all remember there is a thing called a coach's challenge.... if you haven't wasted all of your time outs! the same zebras stopped the clock on a bogas call which allowed LSU yet another chance to win. not to mention the obvious offensive holding at the line on the same call that was reversed. tit for tat...that's football people. game over.

Except for missing the late hit out of bounds, the refs on the field did a good job; but the replay ref was suspect.
Game might be over but it's got a little tainted smell to it.

The SEC office just released a statement saying the reversal was the correct call. The tipped ball rule is what it is. Does not mean the rule is right but, if it's not , change it.

Did they address the question of whether the interference occured before the tipped ball? Kind of like which came first, chicken or the egg. Looked to me like the receiver was hit before the ball was tipped.
Again, I wanted Auburn to win and am glad they did, just thought they benefitted from some questionable calls.

First, the only time the replay official came into play was on the 4th down catch/ no catch reversal; the interference call was overturned after the on-field officials discussed it. (I thought from the beginning that the LSU receiver never had control of the ball; after seeing the replay, I'm even more convinced. It was close, but it slipped out of his hands as he tried to pull it in; he probably would have been able to gain control, but the Auburn defender hit him before he could.)
Second, it seems there are a lot of people who think that LSU suddenly would have found an offense had the interference call gone their way. They would have had first down at the sixteen; in this game, that's not exactly "knocking of the doorstep." Assuming an LSU touchdown is wishful thinking. And had they fallen short (a reasonable expectation, given the nature of the game) then they would have either turned the ball over on downs or tried a field goal; either way, they would have run almost two more minutes off the clock OR used all of their time outs; and they probably wouldn't have gotten the ball back.
Here is what the SEC office says about the call: BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- The Southeastern Conference determined that officials made the right decision in reversing a pass interference call late in the Auburn-LSU game.
"Basically, the call of removing the flag would be correct because the ball was uncatchable after the defender tipped it," SEC media relations director Charles Bloom said Monday.
Auburn defensive back Zach Gilbert was flagged for interfering with receiver Early Doucet deep in Auburn territory in the 7-3 LSU loss. The flag was waved off because officials deemed that Eric Brock's tip of the ball made it uncatchable.
Another controversial fourth-quarter call that went Auburn's way was also correct, Bloom said.
An LSU interception on third-and-29 was negated because Daniel Francis was penalized for interference on receiver Courtney Taylor, giving Auburn an automatic first down.
That pass was ruled a catchable ball, Bloom said.
LSU coach Les Miles had complained after the game about both decisions, saying the interference on Taylor "didn't disable him from catching the ball."
Miles also said he believed the other play should have been pass interference because the ball was tipped downfield, not at the line of scrimmage.

Also, the LSU WR who was "clearly out of bounds" was, in fact, NOT out of bounds; he was going out of bounds and probably couldn't have stopped his momentum without the help of a brick wall, but when he was hit, he was still in the field of play. (I assume we're talking about the same play, though it's possible we are not; there were hard hits on every play in this game.)

And I suppose that LSU was NOT fortunate last year when Auburn lost by missing 5 field goals. And Georgia was NOT fortunate a few years ago, before officials could use instant replay, when the Georgia receiver pushed the Auburn defensive back before making the winning catch in the end zone.

Any serious football fan who saw that game knows that it was a very tough, well played game and its a shame that anyone had to lose. There are good calls and bad calls in every game and the refs are human.
You can bellyache all you want, but the W is behind the Auburn name.

Instant replay isn't used for judgement calls such as Pass Interference. It is restricted to ball placement (was he in bounds or not, did the ball cross the plane of the end zone or not, did he get the first down or not, did the onsides kick travel at least 10 yards) and possession (did he make the catch/interception or not, did he fumble or not, did his knee touch the ground.) They can also use it to make sure the clock is set to the correct time, and so on.
Judgement calls and procedural calls are not reviewable, though.
(You're right, though, that Georgia fans weren't whining when their wideouts committed two offensive interference penalties on the game-winning drive in 2002, and LSU fans had more liberal views of pass interference when they knocked an Alabama receiver down in the end zone in 2004. Back then, that was known as "letting the boys play" and "don't let the refs decide the outcome of the game." Like Jim says, tit for tat.)

Both teams played an excellent game. Both are are excellent teams but Auburn got the edge. I'm dissapointed that LSU is not ranked 5 or 6 this week. West Va. at #4?....YGTBSM!

Their schedule is soft indeed but, I certainly want no part of that offense. The problem is that hardly anyone else runs it making it impossible to prepare for in 1 week. We all no what kind of defense Georgia had last year and look what happened to them.

Not sure if the Dawgs have the offense to compete w/Auburn or Florida althought the defense is as good as advertised.
Stafford @ QB could be a pleasant surprise if he continues to develop.
Thank goodness the schedule affords his the opportunity.

Hope it is all true. He's been impressive so far.
I heard a blip on ESPN this afternoon that Miles from LSU is complaining about 6 calls that all went against his team last Sat. Didn't get a chance to hear the whole report.
Like someone said, it doesn't matter, the game is history now. At least the calls weren't as controversial as in the Ore-Okla game. The president @ Oklahoma is asking the result of the game to be voided.
