this is normal size for lakes that have really large houseboats and crusiers. the houseboats have to be assembled when they arrive at the lake and even though they can be launched on a regular size ramp, the houseboats are getting wider and longer and taller. lake powell is a houseboat lake and a beautiful one too. lake martin should have let houseboats on the lake instead of crusiers since houseboats cannot dump but crusiers can. what a shame as lake martin is the perfect lake for a lazy afternoon ride on a beautiful houseboat on a most beautiful lake. the lazy afternoons are coming quick. may everyone have at least one wonderful fall afternoon in paradise. lol

Ric, love the trees! Shaker, what the h*ll is beautiful about an overgrown house trailer on the water sitting in front of your dock, blocking your view of a beautiful lake. Thank goodness we won't have that to contend with unless Jesse J. shows up with the civil rights (boat dealer) boys.

Works OK at Powell since there is no private anything. No houses, docks and yep no trees. It's in the desert. Big though, 183 miles long, 2000 miles of shoreline. Great houseboat lake.

I just have never developed an appreciation for moon scape. Have you ever seen pictures that show the full pool marks on the cliff walls. They have had a sixty foot variance in lake level over the past three years. No trees, no drinking water, no sewer, no docks, no people living there, no rain, 115 degree days; sounds like the perfect house boat/trailer country to me. Seriously, if you enjoy real boating and really want to GET AWAY, this is probably THE place.

osms: looks to me that you have never really seen, been in or owned a real houseboat ( maybe only the ones at stillwaters?). there are some as beautiful as some of the homes on lake martin, inside and out. i a m sure that roswell ric can agree to that. When you are in the houseboat out on the lake what do you think you are looking at? as the old saying goes, " the best view of the lake is behind the wheel of a boat" no matter what kind it is, so why not go in all the luxury you can!! as for lake powell, great scenery and the water intself is drinkable, that is what all the houseboats that are built for lake powell have systems in use to use the water from the lake for everything. get out into the world a little more. as as for lake martin, no better place on earth I say!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Actually there are some really beautiful houseboats. There are a few tin cans though and I don't know how you would get rid of them.
Houseboats won't be docked (or maybe that can be a rule?) at private docks since it can be really ugly when it's windy plus all the power requirements etc. The big covered slips that house these things are mostly confined to big marinas.
I have never seen one sail and set up shop in a cove/slough etc that was populated - otherwise you can't skinny dip.....LOL

There was something written up several years ago that would not allow "houseboats" on lake martin. Somehow, one slid through the cracks, and ended up at Still Waters. I'll see if I can dig it up and post it. I think it is reffered to in the original HB756. It may have been a regulation enforceable by the DCNR, and not acturally a law.

Actually do not think houseboats are illegal on LM as of today.
However, the reason we do not see many is, it is my understanding you cannot trailer such on Alabama Highways or something like that from previous posts.
Also I do not know of any marinas on LM, which can accommodate 100' houseboats.
Heard when the Atlanta company purchsed Anchor Bay they wanted to bring houseboats to LM, but Alabama Power would not approve and I believe Anchor Bay Marina's land is leased from Alabama Power.
Anyway this hearsay may further explain why we do not see the large houseboats on LM.

Its my understanding that water skiing along "The Narrows" of Lake Powell is one of the most enjoying experiences for a water sporter....

You're right. That's a big deal. I saw a few doing it but in some of those real narrow canyons it could get pretty hairy..... Water was 74 degress though - too cold for me!
