A couple of years ago, we began considering the possibility of expanding our little cabin, using the original footprint for the existing 2 br/1 bath and adding another br and bath where the lr and kitchen are now; then adding a new kitchen and living/dining room, screened porch and deck. Our plans sputtered and died when we couldn't seem to find anyone who was interested in what was considered a minor (not to us, of course!) job. Since we are about to have to replace the entire septic system, now seems like a good time to revisit the idea.

Anyone got a recommendation for a qualified/capable/honest show-up-to-look-at-the-job; bid-the-job; finish-the-job kind of guy/gal?

Depends on what area of the Lake . In the Real Island/ Parker Creek area, you might talk to Bob Allie. He works out of Montgomery, but lives at Real Island. He has done small jobs( boat ramp) and large ( reroofed house and garage) Shows up on time, gives a reasonable estimate and cleans up when they leave ( or at least he did for me).Work# 334-272-8163 or cell 334-451-2657

Thanks, KWhopper. I've never been able to figure out which part of the lake I'm on (n, s, e or w) and, not having a boat to navigate the waters, I know only that I'm off Hwy 50, near Chuck's Marina. But Montgomery's about a 40 minute drive from my cabin, so I'll give your guy a call and let him decide whether he wants to make the trip. Thanks again.

Now you really have me confused! You don't know which/what part of the lake you are on? Are you burran? n,s,n,e or w? Are you trying to pull my leg or finger? You live somewhere off highway #50 near Chucks Marina, n,s,e or w? But you don't know what part of the lake you are on. Do you know what a map is? The next sound you will hear will be you pulling my finger.

Yep, sounds like it Jim. Just thought I'd have a little fun. Sounds like he might live down Centerport Road. Now where did I put that shotgun?

Better shoot to kill, as I think he is an attorney - LOL.

At least he used to post with a URL on all his messgaes and the URL takes you to a Birmingham law firms website.

start with an architect. then find builder. in the process of building a garage for boat and car away from house....used Philip Fretwell out of Auburn as architect...nice job..realistic in his approach. now Davis Construction is building. Philip will come out to the site 4 to 5 times during building, seeing i have no clue if the plans are being followed. so far so good. pay the money up front for an architect!

Try Randy Tapscott. He is a honest contractor with a proven track record. He does quality work. His number is 205-368-2144. That is who I've used for remodeling as well as new construction. I'm sure you will get lots of recommendations, so here is one more. Good luck!

Maybe he will defend me against himself. LOL. Just kidding Harborcon but just can't for the life of me see........ well never mind. I live on the eastern part of the lake near Chucks across from the old Bammer Park.

I'd be glad to come look and give an estimate on the plumbing part of your project.

Now that's just mean, Maverick! He's a she. And she's not a lawyer, but plays one every day at her office. Actually, she's a paralegal, but in a family law setting, so unless you got really burned in a bad divorce, please put the gun away!

And yes, she can read a map, and knows that she's at the SW area of the lake, but it's a really big lake and when y'all start talking about specific waterways, she's clueless, knowing only the roadways (and Blue Creek/Centerport Road is right on the money - Oskar's feeds me on every trip - with MooWalla for dessert!). Did try Yellowhammer this time, though. Fabulous.

That's okay. You boys have your fun; I can take some pretty serious ribbing. And I do appreciate all the referrals from everyone. This website is amazing and everyone is so helpful. I was at the lake this weekend and discovered someone had broken into my cable connection box. Charter promised service between 8 and 10 Saturday morning. At 3 Saturday afternoon, they said I would be 'compensated' for waiting around all day for nothing. Oh well. Thanks again for your help.

Harborcon I was really just having some fun with you. I'm glad you are in the neighborhood. You have some really nice neighbors; me of course, BabyGirl and LakeFun to name a few. Maybe we all can meet at one of BabyGirls get-to-gathers. My son hid my shotgun so I wouldn't shoot myself. He says there are some things I shouldn't do unsupervised. This board is wealth of information and the members would do everything possible to help you. Once again, welcome aboard.

Thanks, Lakeman. If you ever see a gray-haired 60-something walking/plodding along Centerport Road on an early weekend morning, that'd be me. I'd love to meet my neighbors. Just let me know...

Ironically, just got a call from the cable guy saying he couldn't find my house. He was about 25' from my driveway and I directed him to the cabin. He said, "I'm here!" I said, "Good for you; I'm not!" Better late than never, I guess.....
