As an Auburn fan, we hardly looked like a top 25 team. We could not stop SC in the fourth quarter. Like Tuberville said, "We are not a great team."

Georgia won over there 18-0. We won by 7. Shouldn't we be a 11 point underdog when the dogs come calling in November?

We actually won the game, but I don't think many Tiger fans are pleased today. I think us fans should forget about rankings and just try to get to Atlanta. That is enough to worry about given our schedule, including probably the best two teams in the east.

Had the head coaches been exchanged last night, Auburn would have probably won by 40 points.

Had SC started the QB they used last night against UGA, the score would have been different. (Not the eventual outcome, but the score.) Big difference between a mobile QB who can also pass, and a pure pocket passer.

Along those lines, had SC started the QB against Auburn that they started against UGA, the poor kid might have been killed. Last night's QB, who has WR speed, barely escaped from the rush several times last night. Anyone who who was a hair slower would have been sacked several times.

Bottom line items-- Auburn was the better team, but should still be thrilled/relieved that they escaped with a win. And Spurrier still has it; now he needs to get some players who can do what he wants.

I like your approach to it greycove....we don't fare too well as a no. 2 or no. 1......as you said, forget all that and win 'em one game at a time. We know that if we lose a game the nat'l champ. goes out the window..unless we change our name to Notre Dame (and somebody else is already using that)......if we were to run the tables including the sec championship game, Auburn would most certainly be in the big one...if not, then the whole thing would be a sham. I'm afraid that Auburn fans might be getting like the Florida fans of the '90s....nobody happy unless you blow 'em out. As for last night, that was quite a talented team that AU played last night. The third quarter was a masterpiece...don't know that I have ever seen a team play keep-away for an entire quarter before. Going into the game, I was praying for any kind of win. We won
but definitely exposed some glaring weaknesses on defense...but we WON...WAR EAGLE to all....and to all a GOOD NIGHT!!!!

The AJC quoted Spurrier as saying he needs just a couple more recruiting seasons...I've been thinking that all along...they get better and better each year...then, SC will be the UF of old with SS at the helm.

I don't think ole Steve will be as great at USC as he was at UF. It's going to be a lot harder getting kids to come to USC than it was getting them to come to UF. Columbia, SC is not the garden spot of the south and the talent pool in SC is not as great as the talent pool is in FL. Albeit, Steve will do well, but I don't think he will match or reach the greatest that he showed at UF. As long as the DAWGS beat him every year, I wish him the very best when playing folks like AU, UT and UF.

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The talent pool in SC is not as great. You are correct. But I wouldn't give up on his making SC his dynasty. Afterall...what DID Auburn, Alabama have as far as a town - it's sorta stuck nowhere, and Athens, Georgia...it's not near anything, or Gainesville, Florida...it's in the middle of the state...not near a beach. (yes, they are near lakes...but let's think kids' mentality) Or those Northern schools...YUK....what are they near?

But talent wise, you are right. Florida schools have got great athletes.

Nothing ever remains the same. SS is just trying to recapture the past. S. Carolina will suffer greatly after Spurrier retires.

True...but he'll get some talent eventually because players will want to play for SS in Columbia or Timbuktoo.
