Two dogs (lab and poodle) and one cat. The dogs like to ride on the boat but the HOUSE cat could care less. Rhonda

We have a Shih-Tzu (born on lake martin 2 years ago next Monday) and a Yorkie (born Christmas eve two years ago) ....both love sitting on my lap (as they are now) , riding in the pontoon, and eating cheese. The yorkie also enjoys chasing the fox in our lake yard (even though he is twice her size) and this scares the S&!# out of me; She looks like a meal delivery system when it happens.......I shoot paintballs at the geese and 22 longs at the armadillos.

I have a regular zoo. The zoo is composed of three doves, five parakeets, six siamese cats, a German Short Haired Pointer, and one jacka$$ (me). The GSP loves the Lake and his registered title is Browning H. of Lake Martin. He and my Brother's Lab stay in the water when we are down. He also points fish. You can see a picture of Browning on Cat's web site.

We have two small dashaunds. One red and one black and tan. The Red one Bert will stay in the lake all day and retrieve rocks out of the lake. He brings them up in the yard for me to find with my mower. They both love being in the boat.

I had a black Chow ( mixed ) who ruled the roost. Then I received a black Lab for my birthday. Then I received a mixed needlenose black Lab by trick from my neice. I was keeping her until they could get settled in Birmingham. The place they found did not allow pets. Since I was fed up with coyote stew I figured I would continue to feed her out untill times got tough. Last Christmas I received a present from my grandkids that had four legs, big eyes, and an equally big appetite. It was a chocolate Toy Poodle. The poodle now rules the roost and will not be ignored. All the dogs love to boat ride. the two labs love to swim and fish. For a brief time I had a cat but one day he left. Life is good.

My daughter and her husband have two dogs that love the lake. A Golden Retriever (100+#), and a mixed something with a beautiful, fluffy face and tail, who is skittish of anyone except her two humans and their babygirl. They rescued her from the shelter. They enjoy the company of the other dogs at the end of our slough (but they don't bark all day and night!)

by the bye, does anyone know the proper term for a multitude of ducks? Covey of quail, gaggle of geese, flock of sheep, etc. A friend said she thought it was "a brace of ducks." Anyone know?

We have a 12 yr old lab, rottweiler, traveling salesman mix. She is a therapy dog and used to love visiting the local nursing homes. She had surgery 2 yrs ago and after that didn't want to go into the nursing homes ,so now we go to the library and let children read to her. Once we are settled at the lake I would like to get another dog, something that will enjoy the lake.

We have two weenies, a isabella and a dapple. I feed the turtle (squirt) for my 6 year old, and none of the dogs can ride the boat because I ride a Cat all summer long (cats and dogs don't get along).

By Chessies do you mean Chesapeake Bay Retrievers?

Cause my Chesapeake doesn't like people... at all. I haven't been able to take him to the lake since he was around 11 months old and tried to eat the neighbor. Since then he has sent one man to the emergency room resulting in 31 stitches and charged at a few of my other friends.

Don't get me wrong, he is my best friend also and by far the smartest most intelligent dog I have ever owned or known. He acts just like a person, it's rather scary sometimes.

Do you Chessy's have any problem with people?

We've just lost our 17 year old long haired dachshund. She had two back surgeries (9 disc removed) years ago that left her pretty slow, but she was still in charge. Went to the coast two weeks ago, let her out at 4:30 AM, and haven't been able to find any trace of her. You don't know how much you miss'em till they're gone.

it is tough, especially since we really don't know what happened to her. All we can hope is that someone picked her up and is taking care of her. We had police, neighbors, joggers, everyone looking through the woods, but no luck.

Don't give up hope and keep checking the local animal shelter. Two years ago I lost my dog at the Lake for three weeks. He finally turned up at the Alex City Shelter. The shelter would not reveal who brought him in, but did say the people kept him hoping to find the owner.

I now have him with two sets of ID tags. One with VA home address and one with Lake location. Reminds me I need to change cell phone number on Lake tag.

yes, they are both chesapeaks. one is 7 and 136 pounds, the other is almost 2 and 101 pounds. they are great with people and other dogs as well. it seems the younger the kids, the more gentle they get. and yes, they are scarry at times because they do seem human. You pick up a towel and head for the door and they will be sitting on the boat before you get off the deck, grab your car keys and they will be in the back of the truck before you get off the deck. the oldest one isnt as smart as he thinks though, i can still beat him 2 out of 3 times in checkers....

Believe me, we've kicked ourselves for taking her collar off, but she had become so debilitated that we had to carry her up and down steps, etc. She was almost blind, deaf, and with the collar on her rabies tag drug the ground. She was left outside for only about 10 minutes before she was missing. We have vacant lots all around us full of debris from Katrina, plus, since we live on a bayou, there is always the possibility that an alligator may have gotten her--it's happened before in the neighborhood.

We had a friend that gave us the same advice about the animal shelter--he kept calling them with no luck and finally, after a month, went to the shelter and found his dog in a cage--had been there all month. Maybe, maybe.
