Anyone have experience with ultrasonic or strobe type (squirrel evictor) pest control devices? Squirrels chewed through my security system wire, so they have to go. I'd like something easier than killing them. Thanks.

Another device I just read about is called a rat zapper.....seems many folks use them to electrocute mice, rats, chipminks, and squirrels. Anyone have any experience?

My father uses a 4' long 5" PVC pipe which has a screen at one end. Puts pecans in the tubes. The squirels fall into the tube to get at the nuts and cannot climb out... Then you can "relocate" or whatever humane thing you wish to do with them...

I have a Hav-a-Hart trap for bigger varmints but they make on for small animals. Can order from their web site or Northern Tools.

Ya gotta kill 'em. Had the problem in two houses and the only way we were able to get rid of them was to kill 'em. If they raise a family in your attic they will literally die trying to get back to that nest the next year. We trapped some of the babies, repaired their entry point into the house and the next year they came back--chewed up the soffit on all four corners of the house until they were able to gain entry.

My wife even learned to shoot a pellet gun (no firearm discharge within city limits) and killed a couple in the back yard. Don't get that woman mad!

For some reason they always enjoyed nesting over our bedroom--so we could enjoy hearing 'em run all night.

Here's some information from a while back on the forum that may help you in your situation. I swear this really works well.

NOTE - Replace chipmunk with Squirrel wherever necassary. It works for both.

THE SOLUTION:
I found that traps and poisons (and gasoline, fire crackers, and bottle rockets) don't really work that well. A BB gun (or other) is OK if you have days on end to sit and watch for the little critters. So here's a trick I learned that is quite simple (and nearly free), and works quite well.

Take a 5-gallon bucket and fill it half way with water. Set it in the location of where the chipmunks hang out. Take a 3-4 ft. long 2x4 and place one end on the ground and the other end up on the rim of the bucket (you see where I'm going here). You then need to take a couple of sunflower seeds (non roasted or salted) and place a small trail up the 2x4. Then you need to pour sunflower seeds in the bucket (they float) until the top of the water is covered.

Here's how it works. The munks climb up the 2x4 eating the couple of sunflower seeds teasers you placed there. They then look into the bucket and see all of the good stuff they just ate (which to them looks like solid ground and isn't so deep that they can't jump out of the bucket in case a predator shows up). They jump down onto the seeds thinking it’s solid ground and into the water. The water is too deep for them to jump off the bottom and out of the bucket and the water isn't deep enough for them to grab the rim of the bucket and pull themselves out. After some time, they shall we say . . . expire. The neat thing here is that when chipmunks die they float just below the water level causing the sunflower seeds to cover them up in preparation for the next little guy that decides to "walk the plank".

So if you have Chip and Dale's cousins running around your house, you should build them a little chipmunk pool like I did. It works great and you can collect 2-3 per day.

The next topic will be "101 ways to broil, deep fry, bake, and BBQ chipmunk" but that's for another day . . .

a few live traps; If I take them on a pontoon ride and let them go on the east side of the lake, they should never make it back ....Mrs. Osms will shoot 'em. Chevy, Is your snake hungry? I could turn them loose in Auburn too.

Better haul your trapped critters a LONG way away. We saw a squirrel swim at least a half mile from an island to our property this past spring.

Those little suckers have GPS!

Osms.....you sure that was a squirrel swimming, or was it just a long haired hippie snake? :-}

I believe I can detect some of the problems you are experiencing with those untrained rock at your place.....you are losing your focus on the main task, you either need to turn over the varmit killing to Pikeski or the supervision of the rock job to Osms so some progress can be made. Either way all it will cost will be a few beers, maybe a steak or two ..... and who knows you might could make a big show out of both activities and get a crowd from this bunch of cabin fever posters to help you out!
