All you boat owners out there be careful - didja hear about the fellow who's truck and boat were hijacked while he went inside a fast food restaurant to get a cup of coffee? Luckily, he was able to jump into his boat and called 911 while the hijacker was towing him (in the boat) up I-59. Why he left the motor running in the truck while he went in for coffee, I'll never understand. Cops responded, stopped the hijacker and the feller was able to get on with his fishin' trip... This was on the NBC affiliate this a.m.; complete with video tape!

I don't understand either why on earth people will go off and leave their vehicle running while they run inside. What also makes me so upset is to see people who leave their children in the car while they run into the store with the car running. I'm talking 2-6 years old!! That's a whole nother post but that really upsets me. Even as inconvenient as it is to drag a 3 year old out of her car seat and into the store and contantly tell her no she can't have this or have that I just know that is part of my job as a mom, to protect my precious child.

Okay, sorry that went in the opposite direction you were going in but anyway.

his insurance would have covered a potential theft/destruction of the truck and boat, considering he left the keys in and the motor running....?

And I'm with you all the way on kids left in the car. Baaaaad.

Ok so he wasn't the brightest lightbulb in the box by leaving the keys in it...but in all honesty that wasn't my first thought. Although he shouldn't have done that the big thing is "NO ONE SHOULD HAVE STOLEN IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!"

if everyone did what they "should oughta" do, the law enforcement officials, lawyers, and others charged with righting wrongs would all be out of business. But maybe the churches would be full!

Dumb to leave his keys in his vehicle, and the vehicle running.

Even more stupid was to jump in the boat for a ride with an unknown criminal. Trucks and boats can be replace but not his dumb butt life. The thief could of been armed or even attempted to elude the police and a major accident. The owner could of kissed his own butt goodbye.

I don't know....I'm actually sort of proud of him for jumping in the boat...

Boat Jacking....., We have a box at Cathuse about 12"x12" with an ingition swith, full instruments and the works. It has a long wire harness coming from it. All you have to do is raise the engine hatch of any boat (mercruiser set up) Unplug the stock harness and plug up the harness from the box, fire it right on up with the key switch on the box. I have often wondered why boat thieves have never made any thing like this. We use it to crank boats when customers bring them in and forget to put the key in the boat.

Awesome, Cat. You make a very good point. I had not idea, but I am not the brightest bulb in the box.

Confused

, for sure!

way to steel a boat, ()or the $$$$ from it). Pull up to a twin engine power boat with a boom truck, hop out with electric chain saws.. cut the boat from just in front of the engines. Then pick up the section with engines/drives/props and set them in the truck and get the hell out of there. This has been a problem with the insurance industry nation wide. But is happening at an alarming rate. It's like this... 2x merc 525's, 2x drives with ext boxes and hardware = $75,000.00+. GO FIGURE. I'll find some reading material and post a link when I get a chance.

My cousins boat was stolen. When they found the hull, the hull is all they found. They even took the time to remove the cleats (and window frames...)

The idea is good though.

I had a merc lower unit stolen. Only 4 nuts on studs and 2 bolts and the whole unit comes free.

Easier than getting the spider nut off in the dark.
