Local rainfall has little or no affect on the Lake Martin pool rise. Rain to the north and northeast of Lake Martin directly affects the lakes water level rise and fall.

I ask you, why the concern for the water level? Is it because we can't get our pretty little, big, fast, loud boats in the water so we can charge up and down the lake creating havoc? We have already striped our banks of its natural state so we can have a neat shoreline, thus we can wallow without fear of injuring ourselves.

What have you done for the habitat of the lake that would be benificial in the future for keeping the lake clean and unpoluted for future generations. What you have done so far is the same thing that was done for the lakes of the Coosa and the lakes of the rivers of Georgia. You have only to look at the condition of those lakes to see the future of Lake Martin.

We come to Lake Martin to get away from it all and then insist on bringing it all with us. We then work diligently to create on Lake Martin what we left at home. Once we accomplish this feat, then where will we escape to?

No, he has not. The Lake Level is too low for Lakeman to bend over to fill his coffe pot up with water. He had hoped Santa would give him a bucket with a rope, but Lakeman was a bad boy last year. Too much infactuation with bumpers. LOL

Lakeman does make some good points. If the water should stay down around 487 or 488 this year, then there maybe the opportunity for the shoreline to recover plus it might save some wear and tear on many seawalls.

Take advantage of the exposed shore line and plant some tomatoes. Funny tobacco plants are still illegal.

AND BTW, it was one of the HOTTEST Marches ever breaking records several times during the month. APC is burning coal to replace the hydro not being generated, but please don't tell owlGore, or we may have to buy 'carbon offsets' from one of his 'green' companies.

Good article. But, this relates to what I was trying to say several days ago. The drought conditions have been predicted and Smith, Logan Martin and Even Lake Wedowee to an extent, reacted. I think everybody that reads this forum knows about minimum discharge requirements, lack of rain, the need to generate electricity, etc. I just hope the next year this happens, our lake keepers will react on our behalf.

.... it boils down to fill Martin, or fill all the others on the Tallapoosa basin. It takes less to fill all of them than it does to fill Martin, which is a good argument for only a 5ft draw down.

they should consider a lesser draw down based on the past two years.

Get a life man - first, be careful how you use the word "we." I suspect others like myself do not wish to be grouped in with your "my life is over" attitude. Second, MOST people come to the lake to have fun, not sit on their butts. That fun is easier to obtain with a higher lake lever. Next, you talk about getting away from it all - what are you getting away from - the only thing I can tell you do is hang around this forum like some kind of teenage chat line junkie. Get a life man and keep the martyrdom to yourself.

Frankly littledog I don't care if you ever have fun at the lake. AND, for your sake I hope the water level stays low because I like it like it is. If you want to have fun, go bungie jumping and please forget the bungie. That way you will be doing the rest of us and humanity a favor. AND, for the rest of what you said, ssplassshhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What can't you do when the water is five feet down that you can when the lake is full?

There are probably a lot of folks who will have some difficulty removing their boat(s) from boathouses. I might have the same difficulty if I had a boathouse.

Now, you might say we or you should of known better, but most would reply they built the boathouse within length restrictions set by APCO and the prevailing water level of 490' for generations. The water level has not yet reached my new seawall. If I had known the new standard was 485" then I would of increased the amount of water frontage I own. (I realize this was not your question.)

What is your personal situation? You must either not have a place on the Lake or a deep water location to where it is of no significance to you.

I am not too worried since I am in hopes, and of a belief this is an aberration.

Feb, the " dog " is only after the fun he/she/it can have which in my experience will not be to the benefit of anyone else on the lake. Seeing as " dog " didn't respond to my original query of, be it implied or spoken, what do we give back to the lake for our fun. Very few including " dog " give back anything. I wish for the partimers and fulltimers that full summer pool comes. But for the selfish ones, they can kiss it.

My situation is that my dock is floating, but the water is not deep enough to tie up to it.

However, I was never under any illusion that the lake would always be at a full 490 whenever I wanted; there are too many variables affecting the water level for that to be a safe assumption.

So, I plan accordingly. I've arranged to keep my boat somewhere this spring; when the water is warm enough for swimming-- darn cold snap-- I will anchor the boat to the lakebed if the water at the dock never reaches a good depth.

Some might consider anchoring to be a big bother; I consider it a small sacrifice considering the benefits. Then again, I'm from a generation that learned that good things usually came with a price; Biggerdog sounds like he's from that generation that expects everything to be given to them, and that has little or no regard for anyone else.

PillPipe, my boat will have to be tied to my floating dock also but we have to enjoy what is. More years we have full pool or close to it than years like this. Amen on your accessment of the doggie.

Actually, I am of the generation that has a job and cannot hang out on a message board all day. I sincerely regret even entering into discussion on the topic as I humbly cannot justify the time to hang out with you obviously forward thinking, enlightened, hyper intelligent environmental experts.

Let's take a look... including your original, there are 10 posts in the mini-reply you started.

Eight of them were made after 5:00 PM. Only one was made before 4:50 PM... and it was one of yours.

So it would be very possible to have a full-time, nine to five job, and still post in this thread. And all of the eveidence points towards YOU being the only one who doesn't keep those hours. (And shame on lakeman for cutting out 10 minutes early yesterday! :-) )

You're right about not being intellectual or learned enough to hang with the rest of them, though. (Sorry, but you left yourself wide open for that one. ;-) )

are of the generation that worked for 30 plus years of more than 8 to 5 jobs. Lakeman and myself remember 7 day a weeks of more hours than you can ever imagine.

So, cut us a break since we are retired and can do what we darn well please. We deserve it and with just a tad bit of respect for it.

Go back to your job BiggerDog and come back and visit in about twenty years. We probably will not be around then, but maybe you will be in our boat about then

We always enjoy a different perspctive of things.

Just give it some thought and join us with your perspective on things.

You do not have to be a conformist. I hope you appreciate what I am saying to you.

If it were not with differences of opinion and thoughs - how will we ever learn from each other?
