This is a good time for a lesson in Lake Martin real estate purchasing for those of you who may be prospective buyers. Don't listen to the realtor's BS--buy deep water property only.

"There is plenty of water in the lake" is a heck of a lot less stupid than the implied "there's no water in the lake" post I resonded to.
And the fact is, the lake is 99.12% full. At full poool, the lake is 490 feet above mean sea level. Currently, the lake is at 485.7 feet above mean sea level. Do the math. If you can.
Or you can whine some more. You might as well, since that is what we have come to expect.

The arrogance of you guys who continue to bash those that voice their concerns about the lake level is amazing! How bout this shut up and don't respond! You see the subject title so ignore it if you are happy. The FACT is that lower levels are bad for everyone including those of us (yes I have one too) that have deep water.
To wax eloquent about the 99% full lake is cosmically stupid. If you need a level of 486 to dock your boat like virtually EVERY fixed dock on this lake, the current level 100% too low. There are some VERY legitimate questions about the way our lake levels are handled relative to other lakes.
The bottom line is we NEED higher winter pool levels and we are going to get them in a few years. Don't even bother giving me the arguement about repairing and building docks... they do it all over the country...
I do agree with OSMS about making an informed buying decsion regarding lake levels for your lot. With that said, many can not afford the deep water lots. Chronically lower levels will hurt us all and will affect values. More rain would be great but manipulating the variables we can control and that ARE controlled on other lakes just makes sense...unless your stupid...bring on the dumb comments...

Bob, your post makes WAY too much sense! That is NOT what many on this board can understand or want to hear. Hopefully sensible minds will finally realize that it is not necessary or desirable to drop this lake more than ten feet in the winter. We would then have little problem raising it to full pool in ANY spring regardless of the rain variation. Until that time, no discussion on this board amounts to a hill of beans.

I fear that "lurkers" from all over the country who may read these boards think that the majority of us may be as dumb as some of the more "vocal" posters to this board. Unfortunately we have a case here where the "inmates are running the asylum". I know that the vast majority of people on this lake share views that more water is better and have legitimate concerns about lower levels. Lake Martin is THE economic engine of the surrounding counties and this is an economic issue.
Rainfall will be an issue forever with some years better than others. It is far better to start with more water and release with heavy rains. LM was not the force that it is now the last time FERC was renewed. It WILL change and this will imporve but we have a few years left. If Atlanta succeeds in building a reserve near the Tallapoosa headwaters we will have even more reasons to change our ways. did you see where ATL was the fastest growing city in America? no way we will stop them from getting more water. We must have higher winter levels of at least 485...
But of course I am just beating a dead horse and shold just enjoy the mud shoreline :)

Thank you Bob. I think most people know my sentiments. Jokes and picking at some post are one thing, but some people can just be cruel with their remarks and personal attacks of viewers posting their concerns. They are the same people that sit in the stands at a football game and yell their hatred of the coach or quarterback, not knowing if a parent or close friend is sitting close by.

How is this a FACT? How do low levels affect me? How do they affect someone who has a deep enough dock, or don't care about property values because they don't intend to sell, or don't own property at all?
I accept the fact that there is a majority of people who hate low levels ("low" being a relative term; if you wanted to see low summertime levels, you should have been here years ago) but to say they affect everyone just because they affect you is quite arrogant on your part.

The lowest the lake got this winter was 479.2, on January 5. Are you saying that if they hadn't lowered it that extra 8/10 of a foot, whihc is less than 10 inches, that we would now have more than three feet of water that we don't have now? How does that work?

I know we all talk about full pool, but another fact is that most of us would be OK with 488.0. Two more feet would mean a world of difference for me this summer. Even the 10” mentioned above would be a big help to me. Everything is relative. Remember back to days when the ole bank account was always low and two or three hundred bucks meant a lot? Two or three hundred bucks means nothing to us now, but think back when.

Uh...Is this serious? I think its just about the stupidest thing I have ever read. Having less water does not make it better because you have a deep water dock. So, having more water would at a minimum be neutral to you. "Don't care about property values"? Yea, thats normal...whatever...really a mainstream opinion there. "Don't own proeperty at all", Ok, and why is it that you don't want higher levels if you don't own property?
You are proving my point genius...I hate having to get an "atitude" with you but your ignorant comments are just too much. please continue to enlighten us on all of the reasons why lower levels are good.

I don't believe this forum should condone sharp attacks on people for saying what they want but I also think that there is a certain level of pontification that comes from some people that can get annoying at times. I think we all need to try to give a little more thought to the tone of our messages......obviously me included.

Y'all crack me up! I also agree that full pool all year would be great, but I don't get in a tizzy about less.......... I can't control it and I won't loose sleep over it.
Lake Martin is a great place at 480, 490, and anything in-between. I enjoy what we have; again, sorry if that offends you.

Good too hear the lake is on the rise. I guess I should have known better in 2.06 when I enjoyed my birthday and got laughs about a lowered lake level. Family ejoyed the laugh and I intend on returning this summer. It was a tough winter, losing my dad, and now I write to ML's forum as I wish to resolve and renew those relations.. It's ben a while I need to to smile and come summer I'll simply do what many ask.. I'll jump into the lake.. First virtual visit in a while, a real visit shall happen.
