An example of classic politician speek having it both ways.

"CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Former President Bill Clinton said Friday that disasters such as worldwide famine and an obesity epidemic could destroy the U.S. health care system unless politicians begin to look ahead and cooperate."

Worldwide famine and an obesity epedemic. Wouldn't they be mutually exclusive?

The obesity epidemic will take care of the worldwide famine and vice-versa. And to think that there are registered voters out there who pay this man to make these buffoonish statements. I noted that he didn't list all the disasters his eight years in office prevented.

Had you bothered to read the story rather than use one rhetorical sentence from it to downgrade a politician, you would understand what he was saying. The article wasn't about famine or obesity; it questioned why world leaders fail to take preventative action towards disasters that they know are coming.

And famine and obesity will not "cancel each other out." There is famine of Biblical proportion taking place in many parts of the world right now; at the same time, obesity is becoming a problem right here in America. Yes, famine and obesity at the same time. But those two particular problems are brought up to illustrate Clinton's point, that leaders worldwide-- that means the whole world, not just the tiny corner that you care about-- are facing problems that could have been prevented had they spent more effort on stopping problems before they got out of control.

And the quote was "worldwide" famine and an obesity epidemic. Words have meanings!!!! Worldwide means just that and you can't have BOTH. But he only cares about rewriting history to make himself look like he accomplished something, anything, besides soiling a blue dress.

I'd like to hear your comments on these words which have meaning:

"Mission accomplished. Major combat operations in Iraq are over."

An accurate and true statement. The mission was to to depose Saddam. He was gone, relegated to a hole in the ground when that statement was made. The purpose of war is to kill people and break things. Our boys and girls in uniform do it with the utmost efficiency.

And major combat did end on that date. What was started was a security and reconstruction mission the likes of which have never been seen before. Yes, there have been a few battles since then ( Fallujah comes to mind ) but major combat was over.

Regime change had been official U.S. policy since what was obviously your hero, Bill Clinton, declared it so in '98 I think it was.

I've always found it interesting how time lines and and sequence of events get appropriately garbled to support weak arguments. The "mission" was to get the WMDs (remember that?) to keep them out of the hands of the terrorists which devolved into deposing Saddam which devolved into establishing a democracy in Iraq as a shining beacon in the region which devolved into the current no-win situation.

At a burn rate of $5 billion/month, I am not sure what the distinction between major combat operations and whatever one would call the current level of activity. Is it two armies going at it toe-to-toe, of course not. Is the military working very hard to get control of things (see :Surge Strategy), definitely. I would merely suggest that it is more spin and less fact.

Yes, and you are following the spin so fast you have gotten dizzy. I do remember WMD's I remember all the current defeatocrats screeching about them in the 90's. I remember Saddam USING them. I remember the same defeatocrats warning that his using them against us was imminent. I remember the cat and mouse games with the inspectors. I remember all the facilities we found to make them with no stockpiles ( save one ). I remember the convoys headed to Syria just before the 'war' began. I remember Saddam paying families of suicide bombers. I remember training camps for terrorists. I remember rape rooms. I remember attempted genocide.

I remember much more, care to debate further.

The defeatocrats have smoked too much weed for they have short term memory loss.

I especially like the last sentence. Lets see if my memory can serve me today....

WTC bombing #1
Kobar Towers
USS Cole
Open threats from every terrorist with a camera
Warned of 'students' learning to fly but not take off or land
Genocide in Somalia
Famine in Rwanda and other African countries

I can certainly see why Wild Bill didn't 'see it coming'. But lets not forget that he did 'bomb' an aspirin factory. I am certain that it was just coincidence that it was the same day that the grand jury was set to release it's indictments. Not to mention his appointed CIA director contradicts his story that 'we' were trying to kill Osama. According to Tenet, he was under orders to capture him, but yet the Sudan offered him up on a platter no less than 3 times, but we 'had no authority' to take him.

LTL I also remember that we started threatening to attack Iraq months before we did and it was because Sadam had WMD's. Now what fool in his right mind would not remove the WMD's so that when the Americans got there the stockpile would be gone. The WMD'sare in Iran.
