This ought to be fun.

My first boat was a 1965 16' Sea Ray Deep V Hull with a 1967 100 HP Mercury Outboard Mercury. On a good day it would top out at around 28 MPH. Purchased in 1981 for $750. Spent about $500 redoing the interior and putting in a new floor as the stringers were rotten. Owned by my college roommate and self. We were in our early 20's at the time and the girls really loved the boat, we were big dogs back then - LOL.

Had for about 10 years before the transom rotted. Had Mother and girlfriend (now wife) in boat when it sprang a leak about 20 minutes from home. Boat start running poorly so pulled up to dock and let passengers out, then checked out issue. Told college roommate to back the trailer in as the boat was taking on water. Drove the boat around off plane (LOL full of water could not have plane it if I wanted to) until he backed in the trailer (about 10 minutes to ramp by car) and we loaded the boat on the trailer to further investigate the problem. Transom was cracked half way down one side and about ready to come completely off the boat along with the motor.

Today the boat is at the bottom of Logan Martin (neighbor of ours took out the interior and then sunk the boat) Motor still runs today and is stored in the basement at a friends lake house on Logan Martin.

So do you remember your first boat?

my first was a Glasstron GP3 1963 model. Had a 50 horse merc. 4 cylinder. and was 13.5 ft long. My buddy and i repainted it burgandy with a frosting of purple around the endges.

We nicknamed it Timex..that thing took a real beating but kept on ticking.

kinda miss that old boat.

First boat was a 17' Arrowglass w/115 Evinrude. Bought used, enjoyed it for one year, made first trip to Lake Martin. Went to old Bama Park (when it was really Bama Park)--wonderful memories.

Of course...I only bought it 2 years ago and still have it. 1999 Riveria Cruiser outboard 75 hp, not the nicest boat but it is fun to load up friends and family and take a 10 mph (max speed with a load) sunset cruise.

14' JON BOAT, Don't remember what year. 18hp Evinrude that you drove with the handle. kept is only a short time, and got a Sears Gamefisher with 35hp Johnson. I'll bet insurance was cheaper on those! And, I sure would like to have that same ole' gas bill. This is a nice tread....

1968 Orlando Clipper 14'. My grandfather passed this on to me. Used to be powered by a tall black 50 merc. He claimed it was the fastest boat on the lake back in the early 70's. The merc died a few years ago and now it's powered by a 28 evinrude.

And I still have it, and never plan on selling it. The upholestry on the seats looks better than the Baja. They just don't make 'um like dat no more!

Isn't this the same boat you still drive around the lake in? LOL

Gas was cheaper on the old "Paddle" boat huh? I've been hearing it's going to hit $4 / gallon this summer at the gas station, probably be $4.65 on the lake.

Hope to see ya at the rock soon!

1990 Sanpan Ponntoon 26' with a 90 Evinrude. We called it the "Pokin Pontoon".....as you can figure what it was used for. Oh the memories.....

15.5 ft with 1973 115 hp Mercury ob. We had to reinforce the transom to handle the high torque. It was a screamer!

1972 Scatcraft, I bought it in 1981, she was all yellow in color, had a 165hp straight 6 Chevy with an OMC Outdrive (leaked all the time around the "boot") deep Vee hull and she would run out about 40-42mph, I was 16 and used to cruise the St. Johns River in central Florida every weekend, man those were the days!

Happy Boat Ridin'

Want to see if we can get the 1967 Merc out from under the Logan Martin House and put it on the back of your 1967? Then you would have a real classic.

Motor has not been fired up since we took it off the old boat, so about 12 years or so.

Oh yes
16 foot MFG trihull with a 135 Evenrude
It needed the big motor because it pulled a shrimp net in Louisiana before I purchased it - once I lightned the load (nets & such) it would really move
UGLY - Puke Green
Great boat- sold it to a summer camp as a ski boat & all the kids lived it because of the speed (not beauty)
