This new development almost completed, with 200 or more units, in Stillwaters, has floating docks (or hoped to) and at this point, there is essentially no water for any of the slips. If the water stops dropping, this complex will have had zero water access this summer!! Also Harbor Point at Sunset Point is almost in the same situation.
Deep water access may be a hot selling point in the future.

Awful!!

You have just hit on a HUGE problem all over the lake. Most of the condos have fixed docks and need at least 487 to comfortably dock and board their boats. Below that there is either no water or you need a parachute to jump into the boat. I have always given prospective buyers here the advice to buy in the winter when you can see the water line at its low point. For this summer, I would suspend that advice and say go ahead and check it out with these levels. When we hit 483 by the 4th of July, I predict 65% of the docks on this lake will be worthless.

I have been prediciting this since early March and was "hazed" for the "dire" predicitions. I have seen droughts on this lake but this lake has grown unbelievably since the last one and most of that develpoment has been done on lots that need higher water levels. I hate to say this but the beach market was killed by hurricanes...water levels and now pollution will be our demise if we do not do two things ASAP. Number one we MUST insist that Dadeville fix the sewer problems. Number two we must insist that winter water levels be at least 485 or we will have this issue 2 out of 5 years in the future...sobering but true!

You posted: "When we hit 483 by the 4th of July, I predict 65% of the docks on this lake will be worthless."......I think 65% is probably too low. I would also like to see more water than that, but can and will make do if that is what we have. I'm predicting a great summer with fewer boats!

As for the pollution, I agree 100%.

Have you sent your letter to ADEM-McIndoe, about Dadeville?

BTW, realtors on the coast used to say location, location, location--now they say elevation, elevation, elevation. At the lake they should say "deep water, deep water, deep water".

I did OSMS...

On another note, why is it that the Lake Martin Area Realtors are not more active on the political front with our issues. If I had a dollar for everytime a realtor told me higher winter levels were coming soon...

Now we have pollution problems escalating with the Dadeville Treatement Plant and an Etahnol plant that threatens further deterioration. I have loved this lake my whole life and I have NEVER felt like we had any real threats...now they are everywhere and mounting.

Don't get me wrong I am there most weekends (yea I am one of those) and I have a cold one, grill out, ride my boat, fish, and love the lake without stressing about these issues constantly. With that said, they occupy my thoughts more each year...

Well said! The floating dockmakers are going to have a nice year.

Sometimes the closer you become to something (or someone) you learn that all is not always roses.

Yes, right after you get the new permits.
