I can understand most of what is being discussed, and yes Dadeville is a small town Alabama. Two to three million dollars must seem to be a huge amount of money.

You could almost buy a place in the Ridge for this amount.

I look at it this way - Dadeville is in Tallapoosa County which has just raised all their property taxes based upon appraisals on the the Lake. (recently posted on the Forum)

If Dadeville can not do it, then why not the County of Tallapoosa or the State of Alabama.

If you are at the meeting, thing bring up this point. most of the folks on the Lake do not have city septic or city water. Most pay taxes.

Yes Life Time Laker, I appreciate your discussion points. There are times when we are in the majority and times when we are in the minority. It does not mean we are bad or less than the others. It simply means a Democracy.

Look at the proud statement Dadeville make about the Lake. I have attached as a link.

Of course you know that your Dadeville website link is the Dadeville Area Chamber of Commerce website. The city of Dadeville does not have a website nor have they learned of the power of the internet as a useful tool in promoting the city and their small footprint on Lake Martin.

You are correct Carnac, but I think you saw my point.

My next question is whether the citizens of Dadeville pay a separate bill for water and sewer or is it part of their property tax. This could be a flaw in my thinking.

Even so, is it subsidized by other taxes?

All of this is just a minor issue point.

I'll be interested to see if any citizens of the city respond to your questions concerning water and sewer bills. I believe that Dadeville has a 30 year contract to buy water from Alex City. Many of the folks on the south end of the lake get a monthly bill from one of the many water authorities serving the Lake Martin area.

I'll find out for sure, but I would imagine they pay water and sewer as a separate bill. Most of us who have lived in cities have seen our sewer bills take tremendous increases as the cities have had to improve sewage treatment plants and come into compliance with Federal laws. Unfortunately, Dadeville will probably experience some of these increases because they have let the treatment plant deteriorate over time instead of improving as needed the past several years.

Shortsightedness can get really expensive sometimes. The best possible solution would be to shut down the Dadeville plant and pump their sewage to Alex City's plant--which has plenty of capacity.

Yes, I pay Parker Creek Water Company. I do have a great well system, but the fire dept would not burn down the old place without a fire plug. LOL

BTW, I am putting in a new septic system with my new home. The old system was not a drum but an acceptable system approved by the County/State. I just did not want the problems with an old system

As many of you will recall, JIM pointed out the individual septic systems problem on the Forum a few years ago.

It is a serious problem but should change with new laws and building/renovotions.

As I said before, two to three million will only buy a place at the Ridge.

It sounds like a lot to most of us, but it really is not. The investment or payback of a couple or even three million in a septic systerm should be good for another twenty years.

Maybe, there should be an accounting of where the past water/sewer payments have been used by the city.

Dadeville has 3,000 + citizens. Lets just say it is only 1,000 paying water and sewer at thirty bucks a month. We are looking at over $30,000 a month. Where has the money been going to? (You can play with the numbers if you like) Maverick can step in.

One question to be asked at the meeting. I am sure there are better arguments to be raised.

how many customers Dadeville really serves. It's an old town and some of the homes may still be of septic tanks unless the city forced them to go on the city system. I wonder how many people actually live within the city limits--doesn't look like 3,000 to me. Many of the towns people actually live on Sandy Creek--the city limits actually include a little bit of a subdivision on Sandy.

Are you inside the city limits of Dadeville? Do you have city sewage? If so, about how much is your sewage bill? Fixed rate?

Thanks. I used to have a place on Old Susanna. Many people, including us, have Dadeville addresses, but are not in the city limits. If you know anyone who lives in 'town' ask them how they pay for sewage and how much on average.

I think we should do what our brothers do in such a circumstance. MARCH!

What do you think about a nice little demonstration?

Feb could show up in a radioactive protection suit, Cat could show up in a deep diving suit (he's going to retrieve the strange masses in the bottom of Sandy Creek... LTL could show up as the statue of Liberty with a sign "Freedom"....OSMS could show up holding a judgement rod with a leaved crown upon his head....the list goes on. Let's hear some creativity out there!

Now THAT would make a great picture for the Outlook and actually get their attention.
