In case anyone has not seen it yet, here is an article from the Dadeville Record about the sewage treatment problem which was discussed at the City Council Meeting yesterday.

Thanks, Kingfish. I need help from a lawyer understanding this situation. If Joe Smith, Mayor of Dadeville, has been in office throughout the period of illegal discharges and knowingly violated the Federal Statutes, is he not criminally negligent? To add to this negligence argument, if he has known about the illegal discharges and made no effort to correct the problem, such as applying for grants to help the taxpayers, is he not criminally negligent?

I'm serious. Could any of you attorneys help me? Tallyman?

If that were the case, Atlanta's last two mayors and entire city councils would have been prosecuted for what they have done to the Chattahoochee.....no such luck.

What a joke. I just don't understand why it took so long to wake up. On top of that he apparently used the need for cash to sell the ETOH plant which will put more load on the system. That's quite odd don't you think? Bringing up another political problem while responding to the first?

I still think these are good people but the growth and the county and city are outstripping the experience. We need new leadership in Tallapoosa and Dadeville.

How right you are. Rumor has it that the guy behind the ethanol plant is the owner of the chipper mill. The ethanol plant will be heated by wood chips. The owner is also a CITY COUNCILMAN--go figgur'. This whole thing is going to blow up in Dadeville's face. Ethanol plants can only exist with gov subsidies and the gov will pull them, then Dadeville is left holding a big note for the treatment plant. Stupid, Stupid

Randy Foster, Dadeville Councilman and superintendent at the chip mill on 280 north of Dadeville does not have that kind of money.

I have heard from more than one source that there is some connection between the Chipper Mill and the Ethanol Plant. I have read that the ethanol plant will use wood chips for heating the mash. Do you know if there is a connection?

Your typical GOB network in action which is famous for this area. I thought the Ethanol was coming from the wood chips instead of corn, hops, mash, turnips and such. Looks like we got ourselves a full blown back scratching here. Batman where are you?

There is no known connection to the chip mill here. The known owner of the proposed A.R.E.A. ethanol plant is a Tallapoosa County man with an Atlanta-based business. The story is that he saw and seized an opportunity to harvest wood from the trees devastated during the recent hurricane season(s).

It's very expensive to produce corn mash using natural gas as the fuel to heat it. He recognized the madness of politicians at all levels and all over the nation for corn ethanol. Having substantial money to invest and a vast supply of wood chips provides him with the opportunity to make a substantial profit on corn ethanol even though the price of corn has doubled within the past couple of years and has to be shipped here from far away.

Funny where did LTL go he said there was no issue with Dadeville and that the matter was already taken care of! Seems like he is now MIA. He must be taking the wheels off his house this weekend.

And still say it is a non-issue. Raise all the heII you want. Ain't gonna change a thing. The treated waste water will still go into Sandy Creek. I stil have not seen one scrap of evedince that ANY contaminant levels are are out of range. I think you should sell your place anyway. I hear Bob is an excellent realtor. You will know him, he is the one driving the Mercedes with the slick tires.

If he wants to use hurricane wood, why doesn't he go to the source. Trees are dying like crazy, the few that are left--on the MS Coast. He could cut out the freight for the chips, get a huge investment credit by building in the GO Zone, have barge access to corn, and not screw up a great lake if he went to, say, New Orleans. We need to get this guys's phone number!

BTW, the trees downed by Katrina were chipped up and put in land fills across the coast.

YOU APPEAR TO WANT CONFIRMED INFORMATION, SO I WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO YOU KNOWLEDGE BASE. THE CHIP MILL IN JACKSONS GAP IS OWNED BY ALABAMA RIVER A CORPORATION BASED OUT OF PERDUE HILL, AL (FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT FROM ALABAMA THAT IS IN SOUTH ALABAMA) ALL DECESIONS ARE MADE AT THE CORPORATE OFFICE. NOT LOCALLY. AS A LONG TIME RESIDENT OF DADEVILLE THIS COMPANY IS AN ASSET BROUGHT TO THE AREA JUST LIKE OTHER INDUSTRY. ALSO, THERE IS ONLY A SMALL AREA OF LAKE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS. TO BE A COUNCILPERSON OR MAYOR YOU MUST RESIDE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS THUS PROHIBITING THE ELECTED OFFICIALS FROM LIVING ON THE LAKE. OF COURSE IF ANY OF YOU WISH TO BE ANNEXED I AM SURE THE COUNCIL WOULD ENTERTAIN THE IDEA. THIS WAY YOU COULD RUN YOURSELF.
