If you mean '88, things are lower this time around. That year, the level topped out at around 487. This is the lowest that I can remember for this early in the season, and that goes back about 40 years.
I was looking at that book about Lake Martin over the weekend, and I hope that it doesn't get as low as it was in a certain picture(I think that it was taken up near Alex City)from 1941. According to the book, the lake was down over 20 feet in November 1940, so the level in that picture was in the 460's , or maybe worse. Whatever the level, it sure wasn't a pretty picture.

1988 was bad, but in the all important summer months the level never dropped below 485, even though it never got much above that either. But in the summer of 1986 the level was below 485 for most of July and August, and was down near 482 by Labor Day weekend.

I think this could turn out to be worse than 1986. The low levels in 1986 were caused by a very dry spring; the drought broke on Memorial Day, and as I remember rainfall was about normal that summer, but normal wasn't enough to overcome the lack of rain that spring. But from all I've heard, no one is expecting normal rainfall this summer.

1988 sticks in my mind because that was the drought when it rained so much in Montgomery that I was cutting the grass twice a week, and I still couldn't keep up. The whole region was way below normal with rainfall, but for some reason, Montgomery was over 10 inches above normal for the summer.
