A link to today's Outlook about the drought and the real estate market. Hope you enjoy Bob, and BTW I want my $2.99/min back.

so explain what this comment means in the article """According to the most recent statistics from the Alabama Real Estate and Research Center, 45 Lake Martin homes were sold in April 2006 on the average of $319,841. Only 32 homes were sold in the Lake Martin area in April 2007 for an average of $268,453.""

The real estate people are going to say everything is coming up roses no matter what. In reality, they are scared stiff at the prospect of selling all of those postage stamp sized million dollar houses that are currently about a hundred feet from the water.

To all three realtors, home sales were actually worse in the spring before the drought really began to affect the lake.

"Things have picked up a bit in the past month," Dark said.

Hmm... things have actually gotten better the further into the drought we get. But according to Bob sales would stop like turning off a faucet for the next ten years. Another thing to consider is that a lot of the older less expensive cabins are being bought, bulldozed and replaced with mini-mansions and starter castles.

LTL,

If the water levels do not recover the sales will drop soon. Most of those on this site can proably anecdotally see it happening...check back in a couple of months. Now get your a$$ back to the lube rack and finish your shift.

the sales have dropped 30% or better. These interviews are just fluff when not supported by facts. Most realtors don't deal in facts and may not know.

I still think LM is a great value though.

to throw rocks at the realtors. I said that wrong. They do a valuable job. I'm sure if I were interviewed by the paper I would put a positive spin on the market too.

I would just do it a different way by saying that this market presents some mighty fine buying opportunities. Lake property rarely goes down in value. It may take a breather but usually holds its own. We were spoiled by those 15%+ years.

Boy, one of the realtors in that article told us just the oposite a couple of weeks ago.
