Why does it take two and three water police to patrol " the rock"?
I guese people can get drunk anywhere else on the lake and do what ever they want, as long as they do not do it at "the rock".
This year the police have harasssed everyone hanging out at "the rock".
I'm all for water patrol, but Lake Martin is a huge lake and there is a lot of water to patrol besides "the rock".

they haven't harassed me. They are doing their job to keep the lake safe for everyone. The area around the rock is a major traffic zone for the lake, and they know this. Not only are they doing their job, they are doing a great job. Follow the laws and you shouldn't be concerned.

Keep up the good work WP!

Not me either. I whizzed by there on a Thursday with two of them there and they hardly gave me a glance. Or my 2006 license sticker. It did give me incentive to re-count my "default" life jackets.

Pucker-helper; realizing you've not only not put the new sticker on, but don't even have it or your registration info in the boat...........

Fixed that one right away.

That sticker is SOOOOO important - Safety, no, Shoot they''ll sell you a sticher for anything

Remember......
It's just another way to TAX you -

Why is boat gas so high - it should be cheap - no Road Tax ???

Ahhh

The money grab

Theres 9 Marine police in the entire state and 3 are at the Rock. I saw one pulling over an old man and what appeared to be his grand son. Never mind the ponton that went by with 25 teens on it . Marine Police I got no use for them!!!

Only 9 in the entire state? How do you get that? while I will admit at times it seems that there are a large number of marine police at the rock, that is also where the largest crowd normally is as well. About a month ago, my hubby and I took a weekend cruise around the lake, and I must say that we noticed a marine police presence at all areas of the lake. These guys do an outstanding job and should be given more credit. As long as you are not doing anything wrong, then why worry about it? As for the boat with 25 people on it, are you sure he didn't already stop it? I have noticed over the past few years that overloaded pontoons seem to be a main target for the marine police. They seem to always ensure that there are enough life jackets for all the individuals on the boat.

My family and I go to the rock almost every weekend and I have to say, not one single time have we been harrassed by the marine police. In the last 5 years I only remember the marine police pulling up to our boat one time, and it was a courtesy stop for the sake of the kids. I know that I happy they are out there making the lake safer !

I've been stopped by them in the past for a routine check ( I guess). They could not have been any nicer. Glad to have them around.

The WP should confine themselves to policing people who are actually doing something obnoxious like driving loud boats. They should also retrieve dead bodies and demolished boats, and generally clean up after accidents. They should not be boarding the vessels of people who are minding their own business. This ain't Russia.

Whether or not you agree with their performance, how much talent can it take to sit on your butt and watch people. Not exactly mentally or physically challenging profession by no means.

How difficult you ask - how many dead children have you pulled from the water? How many people have you assisted with severed limbs because of a boating accident? When was the last time you risked your life when approaching a boat that was loaded with drunks - not knowing if one of the idiots may be armed?

Untill you have done some of those - continue sitting on YOUR butt and watch them do the job that you wouldn't have the stomach to perform.

I'm not saying we don't need WP but " WHY DOES IT TAKE THREE AT THE ROCK". I do a lot of cruising and I may or may not see WP allday. There is a lot of dangerous areas of lake with the draught areas they should patrol.
Like someone said..I have seen WP stop Grandfathers with one grandson while a pontool baot full of 15 year olds cruise (drinking) by.
About a month ago..We were next to a pontoon boat with about 5 adults anchored. What does WP do?..Pulls up and gives them a written warning for having their sticker too far from there numbers... One side was good the other was not.
Our tax dollars at thier finest..WP lets thier motors run and it takes 10-15 min. to write out a warning ticket.....If it warrants a 10-15 min. vistit, Money tickets should be given.

And if they were not hanging around the Rock and as soon as some catastrophe happens everyone would be pointing there fingers at them saying they were not there to handle it or do there job.

Damned if do and damned if you don't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not sure about AL, but in GA they have to go through same training and testing as a game warden.

I suggest that few of them have rescued any severed limbs or pulled up any dead children or done anything else other than bother innocent civilians while wasting gas. If they run into a boatload of armed innocent drunks, they ought to leave them be unless the armed innocent drunks are causing trouble. What we need is a donut shop on the beach so they can hang out with the rest of the cops.

I also haven't pulled up any dead children out of the water but I have done the dead children thing and I wasn't sitting on my derriere when doing it. That is what they call war.

I called them Saturday on a jetskier driving full throttle with a little kid passenger and about 20 feet from several docks in our cove and they were here in 5 mins; the rock is more than 5 mins away for most of us. Gave him a lecture on jetski safety and everybody finished the day alive.

they need to visit the Alex city boat ramp...there are people fishing and swiming off the dock used for launching boats. Someone has removed the no fishing and swimming sighn from the dock.

Last weekend there was a jet ski out in the no wake zone cutting doughnuts and sraying the dock....When the ridder was informed of the no wake zone he promptly told us what he thought i could do with my opinions.....very frustrating and it makes others who ride jets skis look bad.

Are you kidding me???? I will bet a year's salary that the three guys at chimney rock this weekend have never performed a single service you describe. Are you a cop??? You sound like one who would like us to believe that this is what you do. It is just as likely that a bystandard would help a drowning kidas a cop. All these guys are doing is tax collecting to further exhort the so called part timers to support the local economy. Once they save someone, I will be quiet.
