I have just recently heard of green lights being placed underwater to attract fish. Do any of you know if they are effective and if so, where they may be obtained.

There have been many posts on this subject and they supposedly work. Do a search of the forum, and you will get a bunch of info. There also is a guy on the lake that makes them and sells them.

There are several sources for these lights. You can do a Google Search. The one jlazc made reference to in his post is located in Dadeville (if I recall correctly). This source is also a sponsor of the Lake Martin Home Owners and Boat Owners Association (HOBO). Here is a link to the sponsor page for HOBO. You can simply click on Green Monster Lights.

I've had my GreenMonster lite here on Smith Lake for a couple of months. Pretty cool to watch at night. Fish of all sizes are around it constantly . Only problem is when the bassboat guys come up at all hours to fish around it,my 3 labs go crazy and wake us up barking. But my neighbors on both sides liked it so much they each bought one too.Neat lite IMHO.

The EPA has determined that the green light promotes algae growth and will reduce the dissolved oxygen in the water and cause native species to become endangered.

Reduced oxygen levels will cause a severe fish kill, the rotting fish will poison the waters and make Alabama Power have to release more water to keep toxins and oxygen levels within acceptable tolerances.

Besides that, they are really gauche.

Go to the Sinclairs dock at night to get a view of what they will do. I am assuming that those were installed as advertisements...

To find the Green Monster Lights you need go to www.thegreenmonsterfishinglights.com, the person that makes them lives right inside stillwaters. I myself had great fishing with the green lights. This year before the water disappeared, I fished the ones out at pleasure piont and caught some 15lb to 25 lb stripe.

We have had a fishing light for about 1-1/2 years and it is great fun when you can see the fish you want to catch and then toss out your line and run it over the fish and watch him react and chase it and hopefully, take the bait and reel him in. Exciting, even for non-fishermen. We see more and more fish as the hour gets later. We have caught very nice stripers, large mouth bass, catfish.
