I got mine yesterday (re:June 25 hearing) as did most others(presumably) who attended the hearing in the DHS auditorium. I found the responses to be interesting and was hoping to hear some response from Lake Watch and HOBO leaders. I went to ADEM website seeking a link to the letter but could not find. Perhaps someone can link it or scan letter for posting here or the HOBO website.

We're going to scan the letter and place it on the website. Anyone reading the ADEM responses will need to understand that ADEM could not agree with our position because to do so they would have to incriminate themselves. Remember the politicians of Dadeville are grossly negligent, but they were allowed to be by ADEM. ADEM played the role of co-conspirator, enabler, co-dependent, etc.; therefore, their only approach can be denial that they have done anything wrong.

Their response was typical of a bureaucrat backed into a corner.

This ADEM document has to be the worst Government (at any level)reponse I have ever had the misfourtune of reading.

It is about as clear as a Dadeville sewage discharge on a bad day.

Maybe it is not so clear because it does not say what some folks wanted it to say. It all sounded very familiar to me. I think if you read some of my posts on the subject, I said pretty much the same things. It was run off water causing most of the problems, the issues have been identified and corrective measures taken. End of story.

With apologies to anyone who might be offended, but the fat lady has not yet begun to sing. Without the involvement of many concerned citizens, there would be no ADEM consent decree and an Attorney General lawsuit against the City of Dadeville. After fifteen years of violations, the City of Dadeville is finally taking action to correct their many problems. They now have a compliance schedule and whether you agree or not, the pressure of public scrutiny. If you think our efforts have been in vain, you are sorely mistaken.

I wouldn't say in vain, but maybe redundant. I believe that Lake Watch was on top of the situation before it ever came to light here. Those guys do a great job monitoring the lake.

My big beef with the situation was the way that some people used the situation as a catalyst to start bashing locals, especially the politicians. Are they the best we could have? Probably not, but they are the ones we do have till such time as they are defeated. As I stated before, I feel that if you did some research you would find the Dadeville situation is not that unique. Many small towns have WW treatment issues. And one large one at least. Atlanta dumps RAW sewage into the Hooch every day.

And I for one am glad to see Lake Watch, HOBO's and just plain folks like me want to make sure that Lake Martin does not become another Hooch. Think how much better the Hooch would be today if enough voters had gotten off their lazy butts and raised a stink about Atlanta allowing their system to get to a point that they not control their WW. Hmmmmmm..... makes these groups look smarter by the day.
