I heard on AM-750 this morning that Lake Allatoona has been dropping 1 foot per week since they decided to help maintain the current level at lake martin. This is the good news.

The bad news is they also said that lake water in Allatoona is now totally contaminated with a pea green fungus. They say the water there is pretty bad. I guess this is why they decided to send it downstream to lake martin. This will push all of the nasty water downstream to lake martin and allow them to refill theirs with clean fresh water. So in the near future we should start seeing this fungus in Lake Martin.

Wonderful ! The hits just keep coming !

Lake Allatoona feeds into the Coosa River not the Tallapoosa.

Exactly XRF4WSO. So that means Logan Martin, Lay, Mitchell, Jordan and the Alabama River will get the pollution. Not such goods news either.

LL,
I didn't mean to imply that it was good news. My only intent was as a counter to the claim that we should start seeing the fungus in Lake Martin.

HAVE YOU GUYS SEEN THE COOSA SYSTEM..I LIVE ON LAY LAKE AND I DON'T THINK WE'D KNOW IF IT GOT ANY GREENER..I ENVY THE LAKE MARTIN WATER, BUT NOT THE 9.5 FEET BELOW FULL POOL..

I was not suggesting that you thought it was good news. I was just pointing out that it was bad news for those lakes. Compared to the Coosa river and lakes the Tallapoosa is much cleaner and I hope it will stay that way.

The news around here (I live in Marietta) is pretty negative about the COE dropping Allatoona so lakes in Alabama such as Lake Martin can reduce their outflow. I can understand their angst as we have all seen the effect of Lake Martin bearing the brunt of the flow to maintain the levels in the Alabama River. I suspect the algae was always there, its just being exposed because of the lower levels in Allatoona. The fact is (and I say this as a Georgia resident) that Lake Allatoona has benefited all summer at the expense of Lake Martin and it seems fair that the pain be shared. This is especially true since north Georgia has not experienced the same level of drought as central and northern Alabama.

Ditto the comments............live in East Cobb myself. Good news for Allatoona is that they can recover faster than LM when it begins to rain 'cause they have a larger water shed area and a smaller lake to refill. Just think.........08's gonna great!!!!!!!!!!!!
