Time for me to post. It looks like the lake level topic is gaining some steam again.

Let's take a look at the definition of a reservoir - a natural or artificial place where water is collected and stored for use, esp. water for supplying a community, irrigating land, furnishing power, etc.

So my question to everyone is, Is the lake being used for its intended purpose? By definition the answer is yes.

Just imagine if we did not have all of these reservoirs to pull water from during a drought. The lakes serve a greater purpose than recreation and local economies. Unfortunatley these are sort of like by products of the formation of these lakes.

4 and my wish is that about 40,000 would get the idea that we are lucky to have water at all. Who knows what the water situation will be in Alabama in the near future?

I've said it many times before. If complaining about water levels at your Lake Martin home is all you have to b1tch about, then you need to just shut up and let folks with real problems do the b1tching.

The entire mid section of the country is has been flooded this year, but I know what happened there in the 30's. Some folks need to Google 'dust bowl'.

Of course those of us 'in the know' , know that it is really Global Warming that is to blame. Oh sorry, I forgot, it now called "climate change". I was watching a news program recently about 'climate change'. They had one of the worlds most renowned climatologists on ( I forget his name). He made the best statement ever on climate change ..."If climate isn't changing, that is when you need to worry."

I especially liked the story this weekend about one of those retreating 'ancient glaciers' in Europe. It seems that as the glacier is melting it exposed a modern workable silver mine.

High of 59 in NYC yesterday, BTW.

Flathead says "Get real you old cods". I was just letting him know (in case he was refering to me) that I was not old. Or at least, I don't consider 43 very old. But then again, he probably has a flat head anyway.

All the new guys know everything, eh?.....In 1923, I'm sure recreation was the last thing on the minds of those who began construction on the dam and it in not the reason the lake was developed. That being said, recreation is now a big part of the local economy and we all know that fact. What is being stated is that only god can cure the drought, so have a good time and enjoy what we have. Peace.

I wonder how much 'recreation' was going on back in the 20'30's and 40' when the lake was pulled down 50 fet every year, and then when it went to 'just a 30 ft draw down'. Recreation is just a nice bonus that we get to enjoy as a result of APCO storing water here till they can make electricity with it.

Now do your homework and go to bed flathead.

We must be the same age ya old fart......at least I haven't had to have the pipes cleaned and altered like our young friend Cat.

No offense Steve; I hope the pumper is good to go for another 43! (And I also hope my Doc's haven't screwed up when looking for problems).

Yea, I have a myriad of health problems but they tell me the ole ticker ain't one of them, although heart disease runs rampart in my family. One of my sisters just found out last week that she is about to need the old rotor rooter on her aorta. Irony is, she is the only one of us that NEVER smoked and drinks less than the rest of us. I've been cut from breast bone to pubic bone three times already. Maybe when I turn 40 again things will get better the second time through....lol.

I have a good freind who turned 40 back in March and then had the crappiest week he had had in months. That weekend he was telling me about his week and I just said 'welcome to your 40's'.
