Oh my goodness, I just saw this too. That's another approximately 3 feet below last years lowest winter level.

I might be able to walk out to the main channel this winter.

Ok, so assuming we wanted to head that way coming down 231 I would assume. Where does Lay actually pick back up as navigable lake with a boat?

It's merely a creek/river just on the other side of the dam. So how far down before the first boat ramp?

HAVE TO BE ON A SUNDAY...I'M WORKING THIS WEEKEND AND THEN BEGINNING NEXT WEEK THE BAMA GAMES WILL TAKE UP MY SATURDAYS, WILL WORK WEEKENDS ON THE AWAY GAMES..DEF. KIDS AND ADULTS, THE KIDS WILL LOVE THE ROCK AND THE SWING..DEPENDING ON HOW DEEP YOUR BOATS RUN YOU COULD LAUNCH AT MY PLACE, I'VE GOT ABOUT 3.5 FEET OF WATER, IF YOU NEED DEEPER THEN SUNSET IN FAYETTEVILLE HAS A DEEPWATER RAMP..THE CLOSEST RAMP TO THE DAM IS HOLLYWOOD ON PLANT RD....THE LAKE ITSSELF IS OK ALL AROUND IF YOU STAY IN THE CHANNEL, WHICH IS SAFE IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE...UP NEAR THE LAY DAM THE CHANNEL IS WIDE AND DEEP...IF YOU PLAN ON RUNNING DOWN RIVER TO LAY DAM IT'D BE WISE TO LAUNCH IN FAYETTEVILLE OTHERWISE IT IS A LONGGGGG RIDE...

IF YOU GUYS LAUNCHED AT HOLLYWOOD (IT'S NOT A VERY NICE RAMP) THEN TO THE DAM YOU'D BE LOOKING AT ABOUT A 45-60 MIN. RIDE DOWN THE RIVER...IT TAKES ME ABOUT 20-25 MIN. FROM MY HOUSE TO GET THERE...REMEMBER, LAY HAS AS MUCH WATER AS LOGAN MARTIN, IT'S JUST MORE NARROW..I THINK FROM LOGAN MARTIN DAM TO LAY DAM IS ABOUT 52 MILES, I COULD BE WRONG THOUGH..

Theres a ramp just downstream from Logan Martin dam.

I rode from Cedar Creek all the way to the dam and back once in a pontoon boat. Was a long day. And Cedar Creek is pretty close to the half way point.

I don't have a trailer for the pontoon boat and the ski boat is still broke. Otherwise, I'd be all over it. Yall have fun.

How far down from the dam is this ramp? Is it on the 231 side of the river or over on the Talladega side?

Couple hundred yards on the St Clair side. If you cross the dam westbound, turn left and then theres a sign maybe half a mile down that road.

So now my curiosity is up.........

I come up the backroad from hwy 280 and turn right just after Wilsonville and go up that stretch about 4+ miles and come out on the Dam road right at the Dam.

On that road there is a sign that says "boat ramp" .......Is that the ramp you are talking of?

I know nothing about anything below the DAM, can I get from there to Lay Lake SAFELY in my boat? It makes me worry just thinking about it and would probably trailer it down to Fayetteville unless the boat ride was a beautiful ride.......

Info please......

I think you mean Harpersville, or maybe even Vincent.

Anyway, Just below the dam on the Shelby, St Clair county side, yes, there is a boat ramp. Or at least a sign on the road. I'm heading down to Columbiana in a little bit and I will go that way to make sure. If from your side of the lake, cross the dam and turn left. I'll find out what the name of that road is. But it's the same road where folks go to fish below the dam.

As far as can you make the ride safely. I'm gonna say absolutly. When I bought my ski boat, I put it in at Childersburg and rode up to Logan Martin dam. No problems at all and it was a pretty ride. From the dam to Fayettville, probably an hour ride or less. Theres a couple of shallow areas near the dam, maybe a half mile down stream but other than that, anything else is pretty easy to see.

Now that I think of it, I think theres a ramp on the Talladega county side, about the same place, maybe a little further down stream. In any event, it would be a great ride.

When we come up on the weekends we come up that road, I do not know the actual name but it is CoRd 60 and I was wrong about Wilsonville it is Vincent.

Looking at a map I just did not realize that below the dam begins Lay lake.

So Worm if we were to travel down the lake form lets say Childersburg, how far is the swing and hang out you always walk about?

Last time I drove over the dam, it didn't look like there is navigable water in a pleasure boat only that far from the dam.

I may drive down there this weekend and see.

HE'S RIGHT, CEDAR CREEK IS ABOUT THE HALF WAY POINT..I'M 4 MILES FROM CEDAR CREEK UP RIVER...IF YOU GUYS WERE TO PUT IN AT BEESWAX (FORGIVE ME, I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SHELBY SIDE OF THE LAKE) IN SHELBY COUNTY YOU'D BE ABOUT 3 MILES FROM CEDAR CREEK..I'M GONNA SAY 15-20 MILES FROM THERE TO THE SWING AND ABOUT 5 MORE TO THE ROCK...IF YOU GUYS ARE PLANNING ON GOING FROM LOGAN MARTIN DAM TO THE ROCK IT'S THE FULL 50 MILE RIDE, YOU'D PROLLY HAVE TO GAS UP AGAIN AT BOZO'S UP NEAR THE DAM..ON LAY THERE'S NOT NEAR AS MANY MARINAS TO GAS UP AT AND THAT I KNOW OF THERE'S NO RESTAURANTS ON THE LAKE..MUCH DIFFERENT FROM LOGAN MARTIN IN THAT RESPECT...IF IT WERE ME I'D PUT IN AT BEESWAX (PUBLIC) OR COME TO FAYETTEVILLE TO SUNSET (WHICH IS AT CEDAR CREEK)...ANY QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW AND ONCE AGAIN IF YOU GUYS WANT TO COME ON A SUNDAY YOU CAN USE MY RAMP AND WE CAN COOK, I ALSO HAVE AN INGROUND POOL IF THE KIDS LIKE SWIMMING IN CLEAR WATER..

I drove that way this evening. County road 60 is also called Kelly Creek road. There is a road about 2 miles after the dam, Kelly Creek Landing road with a boat ramp. I didn't get to check the ramp out but I did find the road. Steve, it'll be before the sod farm as you are coming in from 280.

I was thinking there was a ramp just down from the dam. I mean within sight of it, and I'm not sure there isn't. I just didn't see it today. I think the sign has been knocked down. I was coming from the dam so you might find it as you come in Friday Steve.

Another option is Gorman Park ramp. It's further downstream on the Shelby County side near Vincent. And also the one on the Talladega County side. I'm about to look for a map.

Chris is right, near the dam is not a good place to be. But less than a mile from it is OK in most boats. The hazards are pretty well marked.

I wish my ski boat was fixed so I could go: -( Gonna try to remedy that this week.

Peace,

LAUNCHING THERE IS OK IF YOU LIKE LOOKING AT TREES, NEAR LM DAM THERE IS NOTHING UNTIL YOU GET TO COOSA PINES GC...THAT END OF THE LAKE IS PRETTY DEAD...EVERYONE HANGS AT THE OTHER END..IF THERE'S EVER ANY DOUBY ABOUT WATER DEPTH JUST GET IN THE CHANNEL, THEY'RE MARKED WELL DOWN THE WHOLE LAKE..
