Any one making it out this Labor Day weekend. Tried getting down there this past weekend but weather didn't permit. Worm, you mentioned launching at Beeswax...how far from there to the rock and swing? Looking forward to coming down...Just moved from Madison WI to the B'ham area and haven't had the boat out since Memorial Weekend. If anyone is out and don't mind taking me for a brief "lake tour" so I can familiarize myself with the lake it would be much appreciated. One more question for anyone...why is it this lake's water level always full compared to others? It seems to be the ideal lake for people who enjoy boating late into the year. Thanks!

Are there any restaurants/bars on the lake? Just checking so I can plan accordingly.

I WILL BE OUT ON THE LAKE SOME SUN. AND ALL DAY MON...NO BARS OR RESTAURANTS THAT I KNOW OF..I THINK YOU CAN GET FOOD AT BOZOS...IF YOU LAUNCH AT THE PUBLIC LAUNCH AT BEESWAX IT'S ABOUT 15 MILES DOWNRIVER TO THE SWING AND ROCK..IF YOU START FROM THERE THEN YOU WILL HEAD DOWNRIVER, STAY IN THE CHANNEL WHERE IT IS MARKED UNTIL THE RIVER MAKES A SHARP BEND AND THEN YOU'LL SEE BOZO'S CAMP, AFTER THAT IT OPENS UP AND YOU CAN RUN WHEREVER YOU WANT....I'LL STAY IN TOUCH HERE AND IF POSSIBLE MEET YOU SOMEWHERE AND SHOW YOU THE LAKE..IF YOU LAUNCH AT BEESWAX THEN YOU'LL BE ABOUT 3 MILES FROM MY HOUSE...AS FAR AS THE WATER LEVELS:LAY, MITCHELL, AND JORDAN ARE CLASSED AS "RUN OF THE RIVER" BY APCO...I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS, BUT I KNOW THE WATER LEVEL DOESN'T FLUCTUATE ANY...UP RIVER ON WIESS, HENRY AND LOGAN MARTIN THEY ARE HOLDING RESEVOIRS SO THEY HAVE A FULL POOL AND A WINTER POOL...DUE TO THE DROUGHT THEY HAVE ALL REACHED WINTER POOL AND BELOW WHILE THE LOWER COOSA IS UNAFFECTED. I DON'T KNOW WHY MITCHELL AND JORDAN ARE UP BUT LAY HAS TO STAY UP DUE TO THE NEED FOR WATER AT THE STEAM POWER PLANT UPRIVER....

Worm, Looking at a map from Bozo's where do I head to get to the rock or swing? Is Bozo's a public launch? Looking at the map is looks to be a nice ride down from Beeswax, when in the channel what's the best speed? You've been great with all my questions. I know when I get down there I'm going to be thankful for all your tips! Thanks again!

If you are looking to get to the ropeswing and/or rock, you may want to put in further south. There is a public boat launch that will put you past the channels. Go 47 to 71 then 400. When you come out to the main body go right to get to the narrows (gets narow and then opens back up). Just past that is the rope swing (on the right). Past that is Waxahatchee Creek. At the entrance to Waxahachee you will see a small sign for Layport Marina. You can get burgers, fries, etc.

If you go past Waxahatchee and continue on the main body, you will go all the way to the dam. Go left just before the dam and it is a few miles to the rock. When it narrows, the end and the rock is on the right. Most likely several boats will be there.

Bozos is left from the boat launch. the only food there is boiled peanuts. No beer on the lake that i know of. There is good fishing all over and a slalom course behind the islands across from bozos marina. Stay south of Bozos for the deepest water. Lay stays up most of the time, but is notorious for shallow areas and stumps. Dont deviate from the channels and you should be fine.

For all alabama lake levels you can visit http://www.alabamapower.com/lakes/iframe_lakelevel.asp

I will be there Friday till Monday with the whole family. What kind of boat will you be in? We frequent both the rock and ropeswing areas.

I live in birmingham. My sister has a place in spring creek near the church.

Waxahachee Creek is a mile south of the narrows on the right. The Layport Marina sign is at the entrance to waxahachee. go about a mile or so down the creek and you will see it on the right. Ladies name is Nell. Makes a good burger and they open pretty early. So if you get out fishing early and are starving by 8 or 9, you can stop by and pick up a breakfast sandwich!

You do much fishing? Could use some good pointers. Probably get out early Sat morning. What are they hitting in this heat?

I DON'T REALLY FISH MUCH..I KNOW YOU HAVE TO FIND GOOD SHADE IN SHALLOW WATER TO CATCH THEM IN THIS HEAT..THE OLD GO TO BAIT FOR LAY LAKE IS THE ROOSTER TAIL (WHITE)..WHEN THE HOT SPELL HIT YOU COULDN'T EVEN FIND ONE ON 280 IN B'HAM...ABOUT THE ONLY TIPS I CAN GIVE..MOST FOLKS WANT TO STAY AROUND THE GRASS, BUT YOU GOTTA GET RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF IT TO CATCH ANYTHING IN THIS HEAT...I CAUGHT A 4 POUNDER IN A GRASS BED ABOUT 10 FEET FROM MY BOAT RAMP-1.5 FT. OF WATER AND 95 DEGREE HEAT..THEY'RE THERE YOU JUST GOTTA GET AFTER EM'...
