Why is Lay lake not more popular? Prices compared to Martin are much lower.

Lay has water, is near great convenience shopping in Sylacauga and 30 miles or so from Birmingham. What's wrong with it???

It is VERY small and VERY dirty. It stays under 'alert' most of the time, smell bad when you swim in it, and you can't eat the fish most of the time. Actually you will see property start to climb there anyway. A new bridge is being built across the Coosa just to the north of Lay Lake. People will pay to look at water, even if it is a permanent mudhole!! It will be a toll bridge built with private funds. It will take about 20 - 25 minutes off the drive to B'ham.

It is full becasue it is run of the river, not a resovior lake. Now for trivia questions.

1. What was the original name of the Lay Dam project?

2. What distiguished title does the Lay Dam have?

ALERT FOR WHAT LTL??? I LIVE ON LAY AND IT IS SMALL AND MUDDY...I ENVY MARTIN'S CLEAR WATER..BUT I DON'T ENVY THE CROWD AND THE INFLATED HOME PRICES...SO IN OTHER WORDS, I LOVE MY MUDHOLE..

But I prefer not to live on water that you can't eat what comes out of it!!

But your day is coming once the bridge is built.

THE READING THAT I'VE DONE SAYS THAT YOU'D HAVE TO EAT 15 LBS. OF FISH AT ONE SITTING TO HAVE ANY ADVERSE EFFECTS FROM THE PCB'S THAT MONSANTO SO GRACIOUSLY DUMPED IN THE COOSA SYSTEM..AS FAR AS OUR DAY COMING, I DON'T SEE IT THAT WAY--LAKE MARTIN IS TERRIBLY OVERPRICED AND IN THE LAST TWO YEARS THE LOGAN MARTIN PRICES ARE SKYROCKETING..I WORK IN B'HAM SO THERE'S NO OTHER LAKES TO CONSIDER...SO, REGARDLESS OF PROPERTY VALUE, I'LL STAY ON LAY...

OTHER TIDBITS FOR THOSE INTERESTED, THERE ARE TWO HUGE DEVELOPMENTS ON THE TALLADEGA SIDE OF LAY LAKE...THE PRESERVE IS A 250 HOME SD (92 WF LOTS) AND WATER'S EDGE IS A 95 HOME SD (45 WF LOTS)...MOST WF LOTS ARE SOLD FOR BOTH WITH A FEW REMAINING AT THE PRESERVE...

It is either Logan Martin or Sylacauga/Childersburg side.

He is refering to if you are running downstream the Talladega (county)side is on the left and the Shelby side is on the right.

On Logan Martin we have the Talladega side and the Pell City side. The County line is drawn almost up the middle of the lake.....

Been there MANY times. I have travelled the Coosa from North of Gadsden to Mitchell Dam, at different times of course, not one journey. Lived on its banks in Rainbow City/South Side and Childersburg.

We lived on lay lake for 5 years and enjoyed ourselves. Fishing is great, but you cannot eat them. You do get out with a slime feeling. The burgers are great at Nells! You get tired of traveling in straight lines each weekend. Hee Hee. The fishing is awsome, but the value of land does not increase like Lake Martin. Mainly due to supply and demand and controlled development. That's my opinion anyway.

That answered my question. There's a lot of knowlege on this board. Now that's what the forum is best for don't you think?
