For me by far it is the airplane, I still park at the end of the runway at ATL and watch those machines take of and land.

LTL, May I ask?. What do you have in common with the Guttenburg Press? Not trying to stirr anything.

What do I have in common with the Guttenburrg Press?? No more or no less than you JIM. That is not an original idea. It was debated in some history course I took back in college and most historians veiw it as a turning point in human history.

To quote Wikipedia:

"The level of importance of the printing press is rivaled by few other inventions, so much so that "the invention of the printing press" is often used as a reference to the social, political, and scientific change experienced by Europe after the press's introduction."

My heart is in the sky (love those airplanes too, JohnGault), and the Internet and printing press changed the world as it was known; but AC feels OH SO GOOD in the summertime!....and I guess the frig and cold beer go right along with it. (Looks like I'm in a short sided quick gratification mood tonight).

.....that Air Conditioning is what RUINED the country. Before AC all the politicians got the heck outta DC for the summer. Less time there meant less time figuring ways to meddle in our lives.

I would agree with an earlier poster about television...especially COLOR television, then big screen, and now HD. I think it would have to rank among the most ingenuous. How you can capture a visual image, transmit it in the form of an analog and now digital frequency, re-capture it and convert it back to a representation of the original image with incredible accuracy is mind-boggling! .......and along comes computers to mastermind everything....what a great time to be alive (if we had some water) :)

Many if not most of the inventions bearing his name were not worked on by him personally. He set up the original 'think tank'. He hired men with speciallities in different areas and put them in a room together and told them to think up new things. He expected them to deliver a minor invention/patent every 10 days and a major invention/patent every 30 days. I am not exact on the timeline, but they were on a deadline. By contract all patents were filed under his name. Smart man.

We also should not forget many life-saving medicines and devices. Things such as penicillin, polio vacine, X-Ray devices, and etc.

On a lighter note, some mentioning beer might add viagra to the list.

Speaking of TVs......IMHO, more important than the "type" of the TV is that little gadget called the REMOTE !!!!

When I was a kid, I WAS the remote....whenever the folks wanted to change between the 3 channels we could get, guess who had to get up to turn the dial????? Now we just need to come up with something useful for OUR kids to do for us. (Fetching beer from the fridge on request is one that comes to mind.)

Well, let me see. We have mini-skirts, bumper implants, cold beer and viagara, birth control pills, Auburn football on High Def (with a remote) all in air conditioned comfort. Yeah, we're doing REAL good!!

You're not several hundred years old, are you, LTL? Maybe that's what he means! ;-)
