First time posting here. Was wondering if anyone else was having any problems with 4 wheelers and 4 wheel drive trucks using the lake bed as a race track or mud run pit. Every year it gets worst, especially the last 2 years due to the lack of useable water on Logan Martin. Here lately they have been riding/ driving from 3:00 pm until 3:00 am. Enough is enough. I have called Riverside Police the last 2 week-ends for some relief. They Police tell me they have no way of catching them on the lake bed. All they can do is try and stop them as they come out. Just getting really frustrated that there is nothing that can be done. Thank you for letting me vent here.

I hate to hear you are having a problem with that. We are on the lower end and do not have enough room to get trucks around but I understand 4 wheelers can be seen occasionally riding on the shore.

Is it just a nuisance or are they destroying property where they are riding?

Have you talked to Gilbert (police cheif) , if so and that didnt help pop in on the city council meeting one night and see if you can get anything done that way. Im not sure what nights they meet , tuesdays I think. I have met the mayor, he seems to care about peoples concerns, but come to think of it, that was election year too.

They ride the lake bed near our place at the old Rabbit Branch marina. That is the end of the lake in that slew, and there is plenty of mud to play in. It doesn't bother me because they are far enough away from me, but I can understand your point. I imagine they would be a nuisance if they were any closer. I'm not sure if riding in the lake bed is against the law, or not. Maybe the St. Clair County Sheriff's office can help if Riverside PD won't. I know they have 4 wheelers at their disposal & can catch them in the act. If not, call APCO & complain - maybe they'll do something.

Thanks to all that replyed. I really dont think they are causing much damage, other than creating deep mud holes where they're trucks are getting stuck, and then listen for a couple of hours trying to get them un stuck. I have spoke with Gilbert about it, and he has stated that the lake bed belongs to APCO and was not paid to enforce APCO properties. I quess I will stop in town hall to see when the next meeting is to voice my concerns, was just wondering if anyone else was as frustrated as I am on Lock 4 Rd.

Thanks

Don't you need a permit from APCO to dig?

If you can dig with a tire and not have to have a permit then we can all take old trucks get them "stuck" at the end of our piers or sloughs or wherever needs tending to and then dig them out "because they are stuck".

Right?

I am coming up to yalls lake, even if it is down 5 ft. That sounds like fun. Who's house can I come to and watch. Can we walk out there and hang out with them for a while and take our cooler? That would have to be some good ole' dirty entertainment. Making lite of a situation here! But would be fun for a day.

Just take hwy 78 east out of pell city, cross the river in riverside , look to the left , there they are . You can get right amoungst em . Last year there was a 4 wheeler that got stuck, then a track hoe got stuck trying to get the 4 wheeler out . Then 3 tow trucks buried trying to get the track hoe out. Finally I think it took a crane to get everyone back to dry land. There was a full page story in the paper , pics and everything. I was out of town that night, missed everything.

I think I am the other Steve or another Steve or your brother from another mother, I think????.

I used to be one of those kids with a big truck getting dirty even though we were off in the woods somewhere where only we could get to.

But I always enjoy watching the coolest guy tearing up his toy trying to impress his budweiser brothers.

I did alot of that too with VW'S , cut downs and rail jobs. We would ride on the weekends, work on them during the week.
