If you do too, feel free to sign in under this post with your support.

I do not think it's arrogant to lobby for local business', the interests of property and boat owners, and the local lake economy. I also agree 100% with the post made by Maverick who is one of the MANY (not just a few) hardworking volunteers in the HOBO's organization.

Maverick. Anyone with a grain of common sense and that reads this forum knows why the HOBO organization was formed and what it stands for at this point in time. I sent my $25 because I too believe in what you and the group are fighting for. From day one we knew LTL is against the ideas you are fighting for and therefore he has not joined. Makes sense to me. Therefore, if you read this forum and you join HOBO, then you would have to assume you have the backing of most of the members, again at this point of time. As other issues come up in the future, I would want to know where you and the board stand on certain issues, but for now I am a member and I know what you stand for on the current issues. This is just a vote of confidence for you and the current board and is simply one member’s opinion. Thanks for you efforts.

How do you know that I am not a member? In fact if you search back you will find where I said not only was I going to join, but encourage freinds and neighbors to also. That was before it became about enriching us at the expense of others though. The fact that they wish to silence opposing veiwpoints should concern everyone. If you have 'right' on your side you should encourage debate, not wish to squash it, and CERTAINLY not refer to opposing views as 'potshots'.

Do your own research. It is there, I guarentee it. You only have to read the posts since May, that should narrow it down for you.

I would recommend that you not respond to LTL. I have been observing his communications for the past months and I would submit that is a waste of productive energy.

I give a big "Amen" to that.

I too support the overall objectives of HOBO and while they may take tactics different than I would under similar circumstances that is a reality of being involved in any special-interest organization. If someone has an issue with what the leadership of HOBO is doing, rather than complain get involved in the day-to-day operations of the organization. I am quite sure they would love the help as they are not being paid for the time they put in. Otherwise it seems to me of limited value to foment dissent among the members.

I have to admit that I would be very surprised to learn that a majority of members aren't concerned with water levels, water quality and other issues of importance to home and boat owners. They may not believe that water levels are important as water quality or vice versa, but those general issues seem to me to be of paramonunt importance. I for one have very limited time to participate in HOBO but very much appreciate all their efforts. Will it always be perfect? No. Will they always say things exactly the way I would? No. But as long as they are true to the overall mission and don't get wrapped up in personal agenda's and vendetta's and absence our direct involvement to the contrary they deserve our support.

Being concerned about water levels however, does not mean that folks believe we should hold water to the detriment of those downstream. Outside of the businesses that are directly tied to the lake, it is JUST RECREATION. Jobs are on the line downstream and nobodies recreation should take precedent over that. As I have stated, the lake businesses are back to normal now that the season is over. If the lake filled up this week, it would still be absent the crowds this weekend. I understand the concern is for next year, but once again that is putting our pleasure above others welfare.

I am concerned with secrecy also. Mav claimed to be in contact with such 'high officials' yet doesn't name them. Why would that be? IF everything is so above board, why the secrecy about who they are in contact with? And then there is the reference to other things they are pursuing for the greater good of the lake. What are these things? And how can they claim to represent ALL stakeholders when members of the leadership were in a lawsuit to prevent certain boats form being able to enjoy the lake?

Any group, club, organization, or person who is afraid of scrutiny and opposing viewpoints deserves even greater scrutiny. Only dictators wish and work toward silencing the opposition. In a free society debate is welcomed and embraced. If you have the best argument, why be afraid to argue it?

Well said, MartiniMan. I feel pretty much the same as you. I have been pleasantly surprised with what has been accomplished thus far by HOBO's thanks to a lot of dedicated effort by MANY in the organization. I
feel the overall mission of HOBO is for the overall betterment of ALL those who love Lake Martin and share in its beauty and use. I have some concerns about the 485 winter level remembering some near flood situations during enormous Spring rains of the past. That variance in my feeling does not deter me from my membership in and support of the HOBO group. In the years to come, I believe that all Lake Martin lovers will be able to look back and truly appreciate the efforts of people like Dick Bronson and the Lake Watch group along with the HOBO group and its dedicated leadership.

LTL - You stated the following:

"when members of the leadership were in a lawsuit to prevent certain boats from being able to enjoy the lake?"

There is not a single Board member or Officer of the HOBOs which was or is part of the boat ban issue.

So once again I must correct you as your statement is totally false.

Please have your facts straight before making such accusations.

If in fact it is incorrect then I have been given bad information. But it is not ANOTHER INCORRECT STATEMENT, but the first. Show me another, but remember not agreeing with it doesn't make it incorrect.

Please make sure that what you WANT is not counter to what others NEED. In my world needs are more important than wants. And make sure your, and your leaderships, press releases and forum posts are UNBIASED and don't use inflamatory and inaccurate statements such as Lake Martin being 'drained' just to float dredge.

I can't help but notice that you didn't post any other 'inacurate' statements made by me. Could it be that you can't find any. The forum is full of my posts you may not agree with, but that does NOT make them inacurate.

Me and my family will support the HOBO's. This young organization has grown legs pretty fast. I am a very busy man,as are most , and in due time maby I can contribute more.

I appreciate the efferts and time that many have spent to get the HOBO's up and running....people who have much more knowledge than I about running an organization.

By my self, all I can do is shout in the wind....but as stated repeatedly at the HOBO meetings:

There is POWER in numbers.

Let the voices of Lake Martin be heard through the HOBO's but remember.....IT'S YOUR OPTION! Anyone can opt in or opt out....and from what I've seen, no one has been denied the opportunity to speak at a HOBO meeting.
