No more public challenges, reminding someone of past faults and trying to stir the pot... If I see posts for the purpose of agitating people it is gone.

This has to come to an end.

This is a tough job but someone has to do it...

Let by-gones be by-gones and go forward, not back.

Validating emails is only a start. I knew the major parties involved had valid emails, but this helps get rid of some minor crud that seeps in... We are looking at implementing the following forum features:

1) Ignore User - If you don't like reading posts by a particular member, you won't have to... Just add them to your ignore list. You would also not be able to see any replies to their posts (as you really would not care).

2) Popularity Score - Everyone has one, and everyone can give one (per member). You start out being neutral. If you really want to know how popular someone is (Positive or Negative) an accumulated score from other forum users will reveal this. If things really get out of hand, this would be a fair way to determine banishments and let democracy rule.

I've been asked many times to ban people, but I've done that in the past and I get retaliation too... It becomes a game of the instigator signing up with a new account from a different email address. Then it's just a new Alias with the same problem. It takes longer to figure out that the new Alias is the same person and you still have the same rubbish. IP and Cookie bans are not effective as they can be circumvented... This is a public forum, and it is not much different from us all being in the city park with a stage. Then some fight for use of the megaphone and people want some kicked off the stage. Then people start throwing rocks.

If you have suggestions beyond my proposals, I would be happy to hear them.

for taking action. I think you have some great ideas and should implement them all; ......and I'm sorry for the extra work caused by the dribble; we appreciate what you do.

Bruce I appreciate the job you do and it would be very hard to administer. I have not enjoyed this tirade that was forced upon me ( my opinion ) but being stupid, I've just never been able to back down from a fight. I guess that makes me one of the major parties. I have experimented several times to see if the attacks would stop. Some of the reads/posters then noticed that ltl mentioned my name time after time and actually called him on it. I ignored him and it didn't work.

Suggestion! If possible fix it so two posters who can't get along can't reply to each others posts. Then, if one of them starts a thread or mentions the other in another thread they will be banished. Your warning to a poster to cease and desist or his flagrantly breaking a forum rule should be enough.

If laws are administered fairly and stearnly they are affective.

I appologize to the forum members for any discomfort or inconvience I might have caused. Many of you are my friends and those who aren't, well lets get together.

I really enjoy the Forum and the change in tone over the last 6 months has worn thin. There is only so much you can do to eliminate bad behavior but if I have the option to block posters that I don't want to see that will work. It doesn't take long to figure out who to block. Thanks again!

Bruce - you work fast. I had to validate my email to post this message. Too bad the children need tough love. It only makes more work for you. We appreciate the forum you have provided for us and hope thses controls will minimize the problems.

A suggestion that you could add to the "for your consideration" list:

Make the "main" forum a pay site. People who care enough about the lake (or think enough of their opinions!) shouldn't hesitate to pay a monthly fee to post their thoughts. Everyone else could use the corresponding free "open forum," and those who wanted to avoid the cesspool that that would inevitably become would have a refuge.

One potential problem, of course, is that those with multiple aliases would suddenly be reduced to one, which might reduce the total number of participants to a handful... a SMALL handful!!

Thanks for attempting to improve the discourse on the forum. This site is a tremendous asset for the thousands of people interested in Lake Martin and this area. It is unfortunate that a few users of the forum can create so much turmoil and unpleasantness.
