It seems that the city of AC doesn't want conservation of water. Two stories in todays paper. I am linking one, but go to www.alexcityoutlook.com and read the other. The costs for the temporay intake is over 500K for 3 months. In this article they are actually whining because 'conservation efforts' have cost the city revenue and they are using that revenue stream to pay the contractor.

UNBELEIVABLE.

I live in Alex City. I have been easing up on my water consumption since last april when it became obviuos that the spring rains werent coming.

I havent watered my yard all year and it looks like it. But, i have seen many buisnesses and residents that are still watering. I even saw a local buisnes with its sprinklers going this morning while it was raining!

This is crazy.

It seems to me that for 1/2 million the intake pipe could have been permanently moved to a deeper spot. All it would take is extended the intake pipe to the lake bottom and running it out as far as you like. I would bet that hundreds of folks have done the same thing with their 'sprinkler' systems this year. It ain't rocket science, it is plumbing. Moore's Hardware in Dadeville sells out of PVC pipe almost every weekend from folks doing this.

543,000 for a fix that will not last as long as the current situation is predicted to last. And still no water restrictions for AC. No ban on sprinkler systems using lake water. But the local politicians seem to be enjoying the national spotlight while they bemoan our plight.

Hmmm, Lots of water under Macon. Maybe Atlanta will get a clue and look for a source more permanent than siphoning water off the Tallapoosa. Would be a good outcome to this drought.

Actually a very good point LTL.

$500k for temporary fix vs. probably not a whole lot more for a permanent one time fix and never have to deal with the issue again unless Lake Martin dries up.

Would be interesting to see in fact what the cost differential would be.

I would make a VERY hefty bet that some connection can be found between the company doing the work and some local 'good ole boy(s)'. The whole thing just seems kinda cozy to me.

Apparently I did some pretty good mind reading yesterday too. From todays article it is apparent 'they' are concerned about running out becasue they see the lake everyday. Perception is reality.

In 1992 Russell feared water problems. They purchased a barge and 2 mega gpm pumps. They gave them to the City of AC.In or around 2004 both pumps and barge were declared scrape and sold as such.Talking about Bone Heads....man

Probably sold to the same outfit that is now leasing them back to us for a 1/2 mill.

If this is true, would like to track that transaction for accountability purposes. Any documentation available?
