I stopped by this morning, and the concrete is poured on the east side ramp and it now extends about 10-15 foot past the dock (water is at the end of the dock rite now) looks good. The west side ramp has been cleared out but the concrete ends at the end of the dock...still good for bass boats.

Good. If I had a marina I would be pouring concrete as fast as the water is dropping.

Just called the marina and they stated you could take in and out a 24' foot pontoon. They said they had a large boat go and in come out on Monday, but they did not know what size or type.

But lets just say the person I spoke with was not very knowledgeable as I then asked her if the state had worked on their ramps as well and she said they were out there last week working on them, but did not know what they did.

My guess would be to go see for yourself, if you need to use these ramps.

I never realized how they extend the ramps. But, i have been watching them work on the kowaliga ramp. Pretty cool

They took and cut the ramp in two, Then took an excavater and using the bucket pushed the bottom half of the ramp out into the water about 15ft.
Then ran new rebar and formed it to pour new concrete between the two to make it a solid piece again....

I would not have thought of that. Concrete can be poured under water but that is pretty specialized I guess. Plus, I guess that the water there can get pretty rough and that would affect being able to finish it. Their way was lots easier.

That was why I wanted to see how it was done. I had never seen anyone pour concrete under water. I knew it could be done. But, just never thought about cutting the ramp and pushing it out into the water like that.

I thought what they would do is pour the new slab on dry land then push it out and connect it to the old slab.

Mckay - How did they connect the old slab they pushed into the water to the new slab on dry land as the old slab would not have had any rebar sticking out of it to tie back into the new slab? Or if it did I guess they jack hammered away some of the old slab.

Thanks.

yes they busted away some of the concrete to expose a small portion of the old rebar. Then it looked like they welded new rebar to the old then poured the concrete in the form between the two old pieces of the ramp.

Is the ramp now deep enough to take a 20' pontoon boat out?

Should not be an issue based on the fact they extended it 10-15 feet into the water last week.

Should be no problem from what I saw.
