Any good advice on Wake boats. My nephew is looking to find a used boat for no more that $30,000. We would also like to use it for cruising. Any do's or don'ts would be appreciated.

I own a Centurion Avalance. Great wake and good riding boat in big rough water. Russell marina sells this boat now. If you find something make sure it has Perfect Pass this is a cruise control. It is a must for good wakeboarding.

well, i personally would be careful of boats that have not been around for awhile. you can't go wrong with a master craft or nautique.
have a friend who HAD a tige'... great wake, great for cruising, but.... the gel coat started getting hair line fractures all over it.
i have a 97 nautique ..21'... we weight it down..great wake!!! it will beat you up in the big water. (rough ride)
my husbands 2 cents ... make sure it is a V-drive if you are going to use it a lot for wakeboarding. he also adds... a tower is a must!! =)

Malibu's are indeed excellent boats. I have a Mastercraft 230 vrs (v-drive) that takes most LM water just fine - even Blue Creek on bad days. I don't recommend you go under 22 -23 feet - both Malibu and MC have great options. Towers are going to be standard on most new - be careful of after market installations on anything that did not have the install plates build into the hull at the factory. Cracks seem to be prevelant with these.

I had great service out of my mastercraft, and also from a supra. the supra was a heck of alot less money than the m c and the mc didnt have a tower.

Absolutely. Buy a good wakeboard boat, then go to lake lanier the wakeboarding capital of the world and wakeboard your butt off.

Hey momo, I do not know if wake board boats create damage or not when used properly. I only hope they are used properly without damage to personal property. Do you own Lake front property?
The only think I disagree with is that others have to pay for the damage (to help the economy) in any circumstance to the pleasure or the benefit of those causing the damage.
Do you agree or diaagree?

Lets Really be fair....ANY boat can create a large wake, even a pontoon boat or bass boat....the operator is in control of that, to bad alot of boat operators don't understand that! peace

Like I said BayPine, I do not know. I just did not appreciate a post that seemed to indicate they did not care and the damage could be repaired by helping the local enonomy. What the H3ll? Property owners have to pay for it just as you or all of us would if someone did donuts in our yard. The Lake is many of our front yards.
Possibly momo meant it in jest.
I have been on the Forum too long to judge a single post.

Feb, Yes I do own lake front property. And I responded to Spot Remover regarding his insinuation that Wake boats ruin the lake and sea walls. Maybe he needs to move to a lake that only allows motors 9.5 hp and less. Yes I agree everyone needs to be responsible but as far as I know there is no law against wake boarding on Lake Martin and I don't think the lake fronts would be nearly as valuable without young people (and some old) and their water sports.

Feb - loud and clear. Sometimes when the less than thoughtful go by my place (seawall splashing like storm pictures on CNN) I have my moments. Agreed that the comment about repair helping the local ecomomy is WAY out of place.

Sorry to stir up so much with my Sarcastic remark to spot removers smart a** remarks. We are very responsible boat owners and as a matter of fact are having a concrete seawall put in on our property this year. I don't know if we need it because the wooden one has been there for who knows how long or whether it has been destroyed because of the boat wakes. Whatever, we feel as if this is just a part of lake front ownership and well worth the price for all of the pleasure the lake brings us. Merry Christmas to all.

Smart a** remark #2. Reckon why they are called "Wake Boats?" Put the 9.5's on the wake boats or up...........! Operators should be responsible for the wake they cause. But, to drive a transfer truck on the highway, training is required. Turning a novice loose with a wake boat is equivalent to sending a kid deer hunting for his first time out with an assault rifle.
