Does anyone know anything about the website tallapoosacountymaps.com? How often is it updated? We are still listed as the owner of record for some property we sold last summer.

That site's info is generated by the Tallapoosa County Tax Assessor's office. The property tax fiscal year in Alabama runs Oct 1 - Sept 30 every year. So the property taxes you pay by Dec 31 2007 were generated based on a snapshot of value taken on October 1, 2006. Many times the info online will only give you who was the owner on the previous Oct 1. I am not sure when they load all of the new info in. So maybe right now in some areas it reflects ownership as of 10-1-06. But pretty soon they will have everything updated and as of 10-1-07.

That said, sometimes they update a sale as the year goes along. E.g. if John Doe owned the property at 10-1-07 and sold on Jan 10 to Bob Smith. Many times I have seen where the will leave John Doe as the owner but have Bob Smith's name and mailing address in the mailing address slot. Then when the next year rolls around, they bump John Doe off and Bob Smith is property owner. But this is only a case by case observation.

The online site is very useful, but take caution. The best way to determine current ownership is to do a deed search at the courthouse. Also, most of the time the lot lines are generally correct. But the best way to know your lot lines is to get a survey.

Thank you! I was concerned that the buyer's deed had not been correctly recorded.
This site also shows ariel views of individual properties. You can even see cars in the driveway. All you need is a last name or street address.

As far as I can tell, the aerial photos were taken around January or February of 2004. I would be interested if anyone else can confirm that, just judging from changes.

Re: the buyer's deed, again I stress, if you are worried about that, the best thing to do is to get a lawyer or professional title agent to search the courthouse records.

I would agree on early Feb of 2004. My house was under construction at the time and that time line matches progress on the house. Lake was at 480'. First time I have seen these photos. Google's photos appear to have been in 2005.

I agree with Pier Pressure from another thread that these satellite photos were taken around spring of 2006

These are definitely different photos and appear to be plane generated. Resolution is much better. Lake was full in PPs thread and trees had leaves. Not so here.

I also thing the satelite views are after my old cabin was burned the day before Easter 2006 and the time my Foundation for the new place was started in Sep/Oct 2006.
