It is offensive, and I suspect it is meant to be. There are few people in this country with deeper southern roots than mine, but the confederacy no longer exists. I know that we are talking about the battle flag but it is a symbol non the less. Those who fly it know what it means to those who fear and abhor it. Ancestral slave ownership, or lack there of, has nothing to do with blatant racism.

While I'm here, I am sick to death of the "BET, Miss Black USA", "If there was a white version of...." That kind of talk comes from the same low brow low bred thinking from which the Klan arose.

I may as well get into the other ignorance while I'm posting. Being of higher intellect or having a Christian sense of compassion does not automatically make one a Democrat. The former President / current candidate tandem to who I believe one of you referred are personally more offensive to me that the afore mentioned flag is to an African American.

Oh well, hope we can one day all get along, the world would be a better place.

i agree, in my PERSONAL opinion when i see it on a shirt or bumper sticker or flying ...in this day and time that flag stands for racism.

Heck, I thought Lester Maddox was your "American Idol". Rumor is he disgraced the Condederate flag by wearing it as a diaper.

Feb, that`s what you get for thinking when you are not use to it. Gov. Maddox runs a close 2nd to Gov. Wallace as my idol. Any body that thinks that Gov. Maddox wore a Rebel flag as a diaper is a fool.

I wonder how native Americans feel about the US flag - specifically the Creeks - ever heard of Horseshoe Bend and The Trail of Tears? Many, including some of my friends, have served our flag and our country honorably even though their ancestors were treated so horribly. I am not a 'confederate nut' (ever heard of the "Free State of Winston" where my ancestors lived during the War Between the States), but I do believe in history as well as freedom of speech for all. The flag may belong to the Sons of the Confederacy, a historic organization.

It is apologist like yourself that have given rise to such charlatans as Jesse, Al, Hosea, and all of the King decendants.

Reverand King had a dream that "someday his four litrle children would be judged by the content of thier character, and NOT the color of their skin". Today I do judge them on the content of thier character, and that judgment is that thier Father would turn over in his grave if he could see what has been done to, and in the name of his movement!!

I don't know if it is me to whom you are referring as an apologist, but if so, I am nothing of the sort. I do agree with you that MLK would not be pleased with the way his disciples have mismanaged progress in the name of remaining relevant.

By the same notion, I think cousin R E Lee would be equally disgusted by the behavior of rebel flag waving southern whites. I detest more than anything the intellectual superiority that those from the northeast espouse and it is the flag wavers and noose drapers that give them their fodder. Those things happen above the Mason Dixon, Boston and Chicago are probably the most racist cities in America, but it is us they love to talk about. REL fought for HIS country, and it broke his heart. To display a symbol of bigotry in his name is abhorrent to any true Southerner.

We still live in a slave state, it is just that the state has become the master.

Rainbow slough you are full of it. You have NO IDEA what the people who fly any flag of the Confederacy mean by it. I myself prefer the Bonnie Blue Flag as it stands for the band of brothers, of whom there were hundreds of thousands. They did not fight for slavery, as many ignorant people such as yourself believe. They fought for liberty, and states rights against the invading tyrrants from the north. By and large, owning slaves was the privilege of the well-to-do. The rank and file of the Southern armies was composed of farmers and laborers who volunteered to protect home and everything dear from northern invaders, to keep their traditions and be left alone. To preserve those traditions, they paid a severe price: Confederate soldiers suffered up to 12 percent killed versus 5 percent of the Union Army. Killed in action totalled 74,542 plus another 59,297 dead from disease (this figure is generally considered underestimated). Of the 214,000 Confederates imprisoned in the North, 26,000 (12 percent) died.
That friend is who I fly my flag for!!
Your deep southern roots are obviously not near deep enough to know what any of the Confederate flags are for!!
I will admit that some who do fly the battle flag do so for devious reasons, and that makes them just as ignorant as those (in your words) who fear and abhor it because they do not know the true meaning and value either.
The next time you want to pick on someone that is low brow and low bred you might want to do a little research so you don't look so ignorant. Just because I love my Southern Heritage does not mean I'm stupid.

By the way
Kiss my Grits!!!!

WOW, this has been one of the most entertaining threads in a while. A bit educational as well. I wonder if the person on 34 knows of this website, and his popularity.

“Oh well, hope we can one day all get along, the world would be a better place.”

It sounds as if you are preaching tolerance, however you yourself are judging a book by its cover. You admittedly have no idea who the person is or their motivation for flying the flag yet you attempt to judge not only the person, but their motives. Sound a little low brow to me!!!
