When people learn what they are planning to do to Highway 63 between Mile 18 and the Kowaliga Bridge. Let's just say that some people who enjoy having lake cabins far from the highway are not going to be as happy as they were.

It is called progress, the gravey train is over for all the old timers. Face reality , another Lake Lanier in 5 years.

I would assume the reference is to the planned "Russell Crossroads."

Russell Crossroads is not currently directly on Highway 63. That will change, and not because they have decided to build the development closer to the road. Instead they will move the road to be closer to the development. moving it just in that area would create a dangerous curve, so the road will be straigtened from that area all the way to the bridge. Draw a line on a map and you'll see that cabins on roads like Governor's Island Road and Creek Trail Road are not going to be as far from the highway as they used to be. I think they've managed things enough so that no cabins will be displaced, but I can't swear to that.

I also can't say for sure whose palms got greased so that something like this could be done with no public input or awareness, but I'm sure that several people in state and local govt. not to mention the Highway Dept. will soon have nice new homes on the lake.

A resolution for the formation of Russell Crossroads Improvement District and the formation of Russell Crossroads Cooperative District was passed unanimously at the January 14th Tallapoosa County Commission meeting.

Tunnels, bridges, new "limited access" on existing roads.....

All of these things are in our very near future.

Kiss Liberty Church goodbye, just like the cemetaries on Wicker Point, it will be "an accident."

It won't be long until the breakfast wanting crowd can get a $20 omelet and a $5 coffee any time they need it.

The Boat Ban Issue. Several said, Russell backed it. Along with APCO. And, they still have "Big Boats" for sale.

like to buy a 2006 model in 2008. Bet you can get a deal--they bought about 15 - 32' in July '06.

Yea, that is what I heard. But still, if you want a "New" Cruiser at Lake Martin, you would have to purchase it from Russell. (If the law stands) Kinda sounds like they could name their own price if the demand is there. Monopoly at its best.

"Tunnels, bridges"-- I'm guessing this has something to do with the "nature" trail?

"new "limited access" on existing roads....."-- Which roads?

"just like the cemetaries on Wicker Point, it will be "an accident.""-- What are you talking about here? Sounds like more fishy business. Can you elaborate?

There will be a tunnel under Willow Point Cutoff Road.
There will be a bridge over Willow Point Road.
Access to Liberty Church Road will be to property owners only.

Several gravesites were desecrated during a timber harvest by Russell Lands last year on Wicker Point. The graveyard still has not been repaired, and several headstones were buried/broken. Many of those buried in this cemetary are Confederate Veterans.

It pains me to hear of a cemetery that has been damaged, either accidentally or on purpose, especially if it is the final resting place for veterans of any conflict. I wonder what would have happened had anyone else done that kind of damage? I would bet that at the very least it would have been public knowledge.

What happened to the conscience of the people who were such good stewards for so long?

Lake Martin is beginning to suck. Call us "old timers" (like that's a BAD thing) but, you are right.....things aren't the way they used to be. Most of you will never experience the lake...you just THINK you will. Meanwhile....I'm gonna make a killin' when I sell to some "wannabe".

Amazing. People can truly screw up wet dreams.
