Two things I've noticed over the past week that piqued my interest.......the cost to get my boat permit from Tallapoosa Co. is up 56% over 2007, this brings to mind the budget and spending issues being brought up by the Good Government Committee; and next, has any one else noticed how empty the shelves are in the Foodland store in Dadeville? If the Foodland issue is related to the fallout from the drought it is stunning when you walk thru the aisles...........makes you realize how much in very specific terms the local economic condition is dependent on the well being of the lake activity. This could be just a regular winter cycle of business, but I don't remember this from last year.

definitely noticed empty shelves at Parker's! what gets me is food that has a very long shelf life is not stocked either. fruit juice, frozen dinners, cheese... these items range from 2-3 months to much longer! one entire cooler/freezer was empty. i was wondering what in the heck is going on! plenty of people were there working though...that's good at least!

FoodLaND IS clossing. Not sure who bought the building, only know who didn't, and that would be the Bucthers from Pigggly Wiggly. They tried for seveal months, but the owners attitude was anybody but the Butchers. What a shame! We could have had a nice big building stocked with great items by FRIENDLY folks.

Not at all happy about the boat tax increases. It seems to be government out of control but consistent with the current government view that we're just a little too stupid to understand what's good for us. Don't think that's what the drafters of the Constitution had in mind. But hey, I'm just a simple engineer.

As far as Foodland in Dadeville, does anyone know who the buyer is? Between the Wiggley and Foodland, that covers my food choices unless I want to trek to AC or Auburn.

They are out of my Chef boyardee lasagna now for almost a month. How is a man supposed to survive. Ive had to send my personal shopper to the big city so I don't starve. I actually had to stop drinking beer until they returned with 20 cans. Just cant watch Nascar drink beer and not enjoy the finer foods in life that open with a pull tab (and also serve as their own serving bowl). Also out of Jiffy cornbread mix. I'm sorry but it is only like 13 cents a box. Its the only cornbread I like and they cant keep a 13 cent box on the shelf??? They are killing the man who likes to prepare his own fine meals for himself. Also out of prepackaged brown gravy mix and the self rising pizza I like. God forbid if i have to start changing my healthy eating habits. If this goes on any longer I'm gonna move the single wide closer to Auburn. Kidding about the house but serious about the rest.

Foodland is not going to be Foodworld. I've been told my the management that the store is being sought after by several potential buyers one of whom is currently working at the store. This should be completed over the next couple of weeks. One thing I know for sure that the new owner(s) are Mitchell Grocery customers. That means they will buy from the previous warehouse that they were buying from before. We all remember how the store looked then it was stocked, had variety, and quality products. All those things are about to be back in place. And the friendliest and service at this store ,even as empty as it is still surpasses any of its competitors.

Didn't Piggly Wiggly express an interest in buying Foodland?

YES THEY DID BUT THE GUY WHO OWNS THE BUILDING OWNS MITCHELL GROCERY AND HE WAS NOT ABOUT TO PUT PIGGLY WIGGLY IN HIS BUILDING WHEN HE'S GOT A LIST OF HIS RETAILERS THAT WANT IT
