Picked up a little info. while visiting Lake Mead. They have a horrible invasive mussel problem and it seems to be moving across the U.S. There is some interesting info. that will educate you on this @ www.ProtectYourWaters.net this is put out by the National Park Service of U.S. Dept. of the interior. I hope we never see this!

Thanx Babygirl. Zebra mussels are not as great a threat on this lake because of the water temp--especially summer. Too hot to trot. We need to be vigilant about other invasive critters (not from around here), that are veggie kin.

I for one do not want Lake Martin to turn into another Guntersville with weeds everywhere. The winter drawdown is probably a good thing in this regard. If the lake stayed full all year like most other lakes, then the weeds would quickly take over the shallows.

Good point. Drop the lake 6 or 7 feet during the winter months (instead of 10-12 as typically done now). That removes two key habitat ingredients aquatic weeds need to survive--water and nutrients. They'll croak without these.
