I just reread my posts below. I was in a hurry and mispoke a little. Water does not neccesarily 'pass thru' the turbines but is held in them. The wooden 'spacers' must stay wet at all times. That prevents them form warping and is how they were still in almost pristine condition when they were replaced during the recent turbine rebuild. Incredibly after 80 years of technological advancement the same wood (from south america but the name ecapes me right now) was put back in during the rebuild. No metal or polycarbonite alloy has proven to be as effective. And the tolerances on these things are measured in microns, as I am sure you are aware. There are pics on this site #2 generator while is was being rebuilt.

Now here is where we disagree. I still say water is passing thru, else how are the daily flows being maintained? Even osms down below stated there have only been 11 minor evets with the turbines in all of 2008. We in day 82. Water was released each day to meet minimum outflows. How would that be possible with only 11 days in which the turbines ran for a short time?

You obviuosly have more knowledge than the 'average Joe' in regards to the dam, but so do I. Maybe you should do a little more 'research' next time before challenging others. What was your Grandfathers name? I am sure I have seen it before if he was involved in the design of the dam.

If you look back at the original posts on this subject, including my first one, you will see that I made my statement respectfully. I stand by my statments.

I'm not going to get into diatribe on this website, nor am I going to release a family name.

I wish you the best.

Water is not discharged from Martin Dam when the turbines are not in operation or spill gates are not raised. As posted earlier, there is modest leakage from the dam as with all dams.

The continuous minimum flow requirement downstream at Thurlow is met mostly from pulses from Yates and intervening inflows from Tallapoosa's tributaries below Martin. Keep in mind the minimum flow requirement this year has been cut back for drought mitigation.

Normal minimum flow requirement from Thurlow is 1200cfs continuous discharge but this year it was throttled back to around 350cfs. There's about a 600cfs flow now due to pulses from Yates dam and trib inflows.

No need to rile up any grandfathers over this.

And I haven't made any disrespectful statements either. I guess disagreeing with you is disrespectful in your mind. I stand by every statement I have made also. There may be no pass thru at this time due to drought, but I can assure you it happens, as I stated, I have seen the diverter doors, and inside the 'snails'.

As for your grandather, you made the claim. Why mention it if you aren't willing to prove it, but that is your choice. I was just curious because I have read several books on the history of the dam and APCO, and one biograhy of APCO's founder, Thomas Martin. I don't think I need to do any more research, but you are welcome to try to refute anything I say. Good Luck.

I can't believe you are arguing about this. I am worrying about how much BEER I need to bring to the lake this weekend and should I take the boat out.

I have seen a marked change in LTL's posts on this forum. While he has consistently been a good source of information the change I have seen is an improvement in his tone and what appears to be a concerted effort to not engage in tit for tat and the propensity to always have the final word - attributes that created a lot of frustration (anger) among forum readers in past months.

To quote our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ:

'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

I agree.....LTL has been pretty positive about things.....and he does seem to know alot about stuff I have no clue about.

It's just amazing what happens when you get a visit from the CAT. We roughed him up a little too much that day, making him take a dirt nap and what not. He was kinda like "His wheels were turning, but the hamster was dead". (<<<<I got the from the Joke forum. lol

Do you have ANY video of me taking a DIRT NAP? I am more of a water napper, but only then if I have a pontoon to shade me. Only CATS like to play in the dirt....lol.

Just because you are dumb as a stump doesn't mean that the rest of the world is. I am sorry that the good Lord chose not to bless you with good looks or intelligence, or even any common sense. For the record, I understand how amazing Google is much more so than you, because I actually understand computers, networks, and the internet as a whole. So just because you can't find your way to town without the help of Google doesn't mean that everyone is the same, especially ME. Why don't you Iggy me, if everything I post upsets you so. With your fragile mental health status I am sure it would be good for you.

Now it is time for you to 'man up'. If you have such issues with me, come to my house and face me man to man. Bring your brother in laws too. You have threatenend me with them for years now. I am tired of your sniping, your lame attempts at put downs, and your constant slander of my name on this forum. BE A FREAKING MAN FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE. Either put up or shut up. I know that I am NOT ALONE on the fourm in wishing you would just go away.

I am puttin you on notice that I am compiling a file of your attacks on me, a virtual stranger. I intend to be at the HOBO meeting when you come up for re-election and to make your postings even more PUBLIC! You may not be smart enough to realize how embarassing that is going to be, not only for the orginization, but mostly for YOU. You have been an albatross on the good work and name of others long enough. Why don't you resign NOW and not put the rest of the board through the embarrassment of having your dirty laundry aired in that public forum also.

Now man up you worhtless, sniveling little, waste of oxygen!!

I wholeheartedly agree J, that is why I told him to put up, or shut up. The only thread you will find where I mention him first in over a year was the one where I took him up on his challenge to prove he is a racist. I am jsut tired his sniping.

SO BILL, EITHER COME TO MY HOUSE AND MAKE GOOD ON YOUR THREATS OR SLITHER BACK UNDER WHATEREVER ROCK YOU CAME OUT FROM UNDER, BUT LEAVE THE FORUM OUT OF IT!!

Your post was right on the mark. There are things goiing on here that you have no clue about. Things going back 7-8 years. Lakeman has been theatening me for years so simply told him to put up or shut up. He has waged a one man (for the most part) war on me for years. At times he has managed to suck others into his childish little game, but in the end they all abandon him to carry on the fight alone. He is not smart enough to just let it go, so anytime he responds to me or about me, I unleash my posion pen on him. Always have, always will. He is a real big man when he is sitting behind his computer, threatening to send his brothers in law to 'pay me a visit'. He has even gone so far as to admint here on the forum that he has brought them and shown them where I live. He is like the kindergarten bully gonna send his minions out to do his dirty work..... hahaha. Well I am waiting, but he too chicken to show up, but he will still launch attacks here.

truly reminds me of when my children were young.

My observations:

If child A looks at child B wrong, it does not give child B the right to beet the he!! out of child A. If child A touches child B, child B should not threaten to kill or mame child A even if the "touch" was meant to annoy. If child B tends to over-react, child A should not do "little things" that he/she knows will cause his/her sibling to jump unto a fight.

As my children matured, the arguments and fights manifested themselves in different ways and "fault" was a pendulum that went back and forth and slowly began to dampen out. Thank god my children have become fine young adults and the bickering is now handled in an adult like manner.....nobody calls anyone "out" anymore. When someone is edgy, they give that someone space. If a little teasing causes an over-reaction, they back off. And best of all, they enjoy each other when we all have a chance to be together (like yesterday).

Happy Easter everyone, and may we all try to do a little better at being tolerant with our brothers and sisters of the world.
