Has anyone been to the Foodland since it changed ownership? First Impressions?

greeted my wife at the door last week. They own a grocery in Montgomery and are moving to Dadeville. Said it would take a few weeks to get things back in order.

They could meet me at the door from now on and they still wouldn't come close to the high regard that I have for the Butchers at the Piggly Wiggly. God doesn't make folks any finer than that family, and the newly remodeled store looks GREAT!!

I think you would agree that competition is good and there may be room for 2 fine families. I wish then luck.

WHY DON'T THEY DATE THE MEAT? I HAVE A PROBLEM BUYING ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE ON IT.

THANKS

I have heard & experienced the same thing. Nice people. The meat is really good.

I wish they had a better concept about housekeeping. They did a beautiful job with the floor and then moved the rusty cabinets right back in. How much is a coat of paint? The sidewalk outside the front is really dirty and could use just a simple pressure clean. The parking lot is not picked up well.

And the kids there are nice enough but untrained as to how to talk to or greet the public. Thank you would be nice.

I just don't get it. Maybe they don't get it. Maybe its about standards - not about caring- just standards.

Don't get me wrong I'm proud they are there and hope they stay. We are lucky to have 2 stores in a town this size. I just wish they would get EVERYTHING cleaned up.

We were in the Foodland last night around 8:30pm and were evry happy to see that 97% of the store had been restocked. I know the employees were ready to close the store and go home, but every one of them were very friendly and spoke highly of the new owners. I've never heard so many "thank yous" in either the old Foodland or the Pig. I'm plaesed with the "new" Foodland.

I was glad to see the Pig do some remodeling. However, I think they still have a way to go with their employees. I've spent a lot of time in the retail business and I know how important it is to meet and greet and say "thank you" to the customer. The folks in the checkout line will not even make eye contact with you much less thank you for shopping at the Pig. The employees at the Pig need to go to Moores Hardwrae and take their course on how to say "Thank You" .

I asked someone on the meat staff at the Pig why they don't date the meat and he said because people won't buy it when it is out of date; so they stopped putting dates on so folks would buy it. You can't make stuff like that up.

I am a part time laker and really miss a nice grocery store when I come to the Dadeville area.

Many times when I've shopped at the Pig, I've gotten the feeling that I have rudely interupted a private gathering at the check out line. It isn't just the employees at the cash register, the person in the manager's box seems to always be having a long conversation with the cashiers. Noone greets, speaks or seems to even acknowledge that I am there, except to take my cash.

The remodel has made it better, but it still seems a bit dirty. I only go there when I can't find what I want at Foodland.

I ve been in Foodland since the new owners took over and I must say this store is looking great. The aisles are almost completly stocked and the ice cream freezer that been down for nearly 2 years is working and THE PRICES ARE LOWER. I noticed they opened up the front end of the store which looks good. The new owner was nice he and his wife said they are excited about coming to the dadeville area. He spoke highly of the management staff for being able to keep the store together for as long as they did. I went to the Pig because I had to, but now I will be going to foodland simply because the store is cleaner, the shelves are stocked, the people are friendler, and the variety and prices are better than PIG so its an easy choice for me

And I am sure there is room for two families and two stores. I always chose to give my business to the Pig over Foodland becuase I know both families and chose the Butchers, for reasons I won't discuss here. The new Pig is nowhere near a perfect store. I have expereinced the aloofness of some of the front end help myself. My biggest complaint has always been with the speed, or actually the lack thereof, of their credit card processing. Hopefully they will upgrade soon. But on the other hand, one day when my card would not go through at all and I didn't have a checkbook with me, one of the Butchers let me sign the ticket and take care of it the next time I was in. That is service.

The store has been a " pig sty " since the Harrellsons sold it. JMHO.

I LOVE the Pig. I buy all my meat when I come down and take it back home with me. The chicken is always fresh and they ALWAYS cut the best steaks for us. The staff is always friendly and I will keep coming back. I just wish they would stock Indian River Oj and then I would be set for just one stop!

Amen to that. Friendly advice to Pig management - "You can' train "nice"... you have to hire it. "

Most importantly--last couple of times I've been in the Pig the beer cooler has been broken--now that's worse than any surrely teen aged cashier.

Meat is excellent, but I did see an 86 from Health Inspectors a couple of months ago.

Ya hey dare... where do you get the Brats

Not sure where to get them, but here's how to serve them...(plagarized from a Google link)

How to Serve Bratwurst
Brats are served on a bun, dressed with condiments, and accompanied by classic side dishes. There are rules to be followed, and if you break them in the presence of a Wisconsin bratwurst connoisseur, you will be considered a culinary pissant (sorry to get stuffy here and use words derived from French, but that's the way it is).
Rule #1: Do not serve bratwurst on a hot dog bun! Brats are eaten on a brat bun, or in Sheboygan, on a Sheboygan hard roll, which is based on a Bavarian semmel roll. Brat buns resemble hot dog buns, but are larger and more substantial and chewy, and are designed to hold a single brat. Sheboygan hard rolls are moderate-sized round buns, suited to the Sheboygan-style double-brat sandwich. In Sheboygan, most folks put two brats on a round roll. In the rest of Wisconsin, they put one brat on a brat bun. Both types have a golden brown surface and are substantial enough to hold onto the brats, condiments, and for most folks in Sheboygan - lots of butter (This is not low-calorie cuisine). For those of you who live outside Wisconsin, it can be nearly impossible to find a proper brat bun or Sheboygan hard roll, so you'll have to take matters into your own hands. Here's a recipe.

Rule #2: Do not put yellow mustard on a brat! It is an abomination. The classic mustard for brats is a brown Wisconsin German-style Düsseldorf, medium to dark in color and pungency, slightly sweet-sour and sometimes flavored with herbs. Dijon is also nice.

Beyond those two rules, which are widely accepted in Wisconsin, there are differences of opinion, especially between Sheboygan (self-proclaimed Bratwurst Capital of the World), and the rest of the state.

Typical condiments outstate include any combination of chopped onion, sauerkraut, ketchup, and mustard.

In Sheboygan, brats are typically dressed with "da works" - ketchup, mustard, chopped onion and pickle. Saurkraut as a topping is frowned upon.

It should be noted that some folks consider ketchup on a brat to be an abomination; similar to how connoisseurs of hot dogs feel.

I sometimes eat my brats dressed simply with my Savory Beer Sauce and mustard.

Typical sides include German potato salad or American potato salad, pickle, and baked beans. See recipes.
