For all the folks taking pot shots at the HOBOS, I have one question for you. How many of you have spent hours upon hours:
- Attending the Lake Martin Dam Relicensing Meetings fighting for the rights of all lake stakeholders for the next 30 to 50 years with APCo?
- Attended the recent Annual State of Our Watershed Conference to discuss Lake Martin gaining Outstanding Water Quality Certification and what needs to be accomplished to obtain such certification?
- Attend the Lake Martin HOBOS Annual meeting at the end of March to see what the organizations focus was going to be for 2008?
- Helped organize and support the upcoming Annual renew Our Rivers clean up on Lake Martin?
- Organized and revamped the Christmas Tree recycling efforts to build fish habitats. Which APCo had abandoned back in 2002 for lack of support?
- Attended Council Meetings, Chamber of Commerce Meetings and the like to ensure the best interest of Lake Martin was always at the forefront?
- Met with County Commissioners regarding our concerns on shoreline developments?
And I would bet you the vast majority of you have never attended a board meeting or attended any ofmany of the events mentioned above.
So how can you sit here and make accusation about the HOBOs if you have never attended a meeting or been involved with any of these matters.
Are we all perfect NO and I will be the first to admit such, as I am man enough to do so. But what I can say is that the HOBO Board does care about the future of Lake Martin, that is why we spend hundreds of hours per month working with state, local, APCo and other organizations trying to preserve Lake Martin for Future Generations.
In closing, in case you are interested and want to see my viewpoint on the boat ban feel free to do a search on the topic Boat Ban Editorial as my position was and is still such. Again that is my personal position and I do not speak for the HOBOs as a group as each person is entitled to their own opinion.
So instead of bitching and complaining about this that and the other, join the HOBOs so that your voice can be heard in the future. As without becoming actively involved in the future of Lake Martin there is no telling what the future might hold and you might be correct the Boat Ban might be just the beginning.
Just my personal 2 cents on the matter as a lover of Lake Martin and its future.
PS - The minutes of every Board Meeting, the Bylaws and every letter ever written by the HOBOs are posted on our website as we are a transparent organization and have no hidden agendas so feel free to go to the website and read some of the info, as you might find some interesting facts out.

I understand your sentiments and frustration, but I think you are seeing what folks on the outside looking in have been seeing. I have no problem with the HOBO in general, I do have MAJOR problems with some of the leadership, as you are well aware of. It is just coming to light that I am not alone in these feelings.
I will be the first to stand up for your character and what I feel are YOUR objectives. I will also be the first to stand up and point out the flaws of some of the rest of the leadership. I admire you and respect your selfless efforts in all the HOBO matters, that does not extend to others on the board however. I hope you can turn it around and get it on track with good solid leadership behind you.

I don't think any of it is a personal attack on the HOBOs, it is a wonderful organization. I think simply if you are going to be in a position of influence over an affiliation, and that organization is suppose to be neutral on a topic, then you keep your opinions to yourself after. Simply put. I hope you know that I respect you deeply, this has nothing to do with you. I just can not at this time commit myself to an organization when I feel that I have been personally belittled by one of the board members for my beliefs.

"keep your opinions to yourself " Everybody has different views. Some like big loud boats some don't. Everybody has the right to thier opinions. Where is the proof that people on the board used thier "powers" for their own good. This law was on the books before HOBO. And was being appealed. this is America !!!!!! Get involved if you want change. I have no problem with any kind of boat operated safely. It stinks for Cat to lose his rights, Money is driving this!! Why did Russel let this happen??? Is this what the people in the big new developments want ? Two years ago on Wedowee they said it was to attact a developer to build a fancy hotel???

Thank you for the kinds words. I know your heart is in the right place and did not take your comments personally by any means. You, PP and the kids need to come up River again this summer and take me for a cruise.
The point I was attempting to make is we are all not perfect and unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world nor is life aways fair and just. But I still think the best thing for the future of the Lake and our children and grandchildren is to be actively involved in any and all matters concerning the Lake that is why the HOBOs were formed. That is, if we all truly care about the future of Lake Martin then hopefully you will join the HOBOs and help preserve the Lake for future generations.
I for one have a full time job and cannot dedicate the number of hours required of many of the Board members to attend all these very important meetings regarding the Lake and its future, wish I could, but I cannot.
So I have to applaud their efforts in trying to support the the best interest of all stakeholdres in the betterment of Lake Martin and all the hours they put in to attmept to do such. It is not a glorified job, I can assure you of that and it can be extremely frustrating and taxing at times.
With that said do I always agree 100% with everything NO, but I pick and choose my battles wishly and voice my concerns as needed. As again we all have opinions and that is what makes this a Free World.

You know the PP family loves the lake. We do want to be involved more then we are now, but sometimes it is hard to lay pride aside. I do understand that the HOBOs are trying to do positive things for the lake. I think the nutein bitin may have taken me wrong. What I was trying to say is when you lead an organization you should sometime bite your tongue, not necessarily on an opinion but how you show that opinion. I am sure if you think back to the first time this whole issue got heated, and even after the appeal was in place, there was one person who did not bite their tongue so well even after they were a member of the HOBOs.... it's just a hard chunck for us to swallow right now. :0) For me, in my opinion of course everyone can have an opinion, that is their God given right, and you have to stand up for that opinion, but you must watch how respectful you are when you do it. I lost respect for a certain individual who happened to become a board member... that is a hard thing to get back.
As for heading up your way... without a doubt. There is nothing in this world like being on the lake, seeing friends, and spending time with the kids on the boat :0)

Without getting involved with the politics, you have my thanks for all your work. You have my full support as well as my membership in HOBO. I give HOBO thanks and much credit for the current water level today. Thanks again.
